Homecoming Royalty Rules Over Week's Activities--
Simmons, Lee Crowned Queen and King

Kerrianne Simmons and Sander Lee were crowned the 2012 MWHS Homecoming Queen and King in front of a large crowd on Sept. 23.

  

Coronation kicked off a full week of Homecoming activities. The event included the traditional introductions of the members of the Royal Court, who were escorted by parents or family friends.

Care for a Stroll?--
Third Annual Early Childhood Stroll-a-Thon
Westonka Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) invites families and friends to join them Saturday, Oct. 6 when they return to the beautiful Dakota Rail Regional Trail for the Third Annual Early Childhood Stroll-a-Thon.

 

Walk, run, stroll or bike to raise money for early childhood and preschool scholarships, field trips and classroom supplies. The day will feature face painting, a jump house, activity stations, a prize raffle, live music, a silent auction and more!

 

When: Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m., registration opens at 9:30 a.m. 

Where: Mound Transit Center 

To Register: Return the registration form and fee ($20 in advance, $25 day of event) to the Early Childhood Center.

Respect is Focus of Freshman Retreat--
Students Challenged to Act with Character

All Mound Westonka High School freshmen took part in the annual Ninth Grade Respect Retreat Sept. 19 at the Pond Arena.   

 

Put on by the non-profit organization Youth Frontiers, the Respect Retreat inspires students to respect themselves, to respect others and to stand up for respect in their school. Students participated in fun, energetic activities featuring team-building exercises, small group dialogues, powerful presentations and large group sharing time.

Pep Fest ~ 2:15 p.m. in the MWHS gym
Homecoming Parade and Family Fun Tailgating ~ Parade starts at 5:15 p.m. at Hilltop Primary and ends at MWHS. After the parade, White Hawks fans are invited to tailgate outside Haddorff Stadium and to participate in a family fun gathering--featuring food, bounce houses, face painting, cotton candy and more--before the big game!

Westonka Students Earn AP Scholar Awards
Three dozen Mound Westonka High School students have been recognized for outstanding performance on recent advanced placement exams.

Mound Westonka Homecoming Week in Full Swing
A full week of activities will culminate with Friday's football game against Waconia and dance on Saturday night.

Hilltop Primary named Blue Ribbon School
The Minnetrista-located Hilltop Primary was recently named a Blue Ribbon School, one of 269 schools in the nation earning the award in 2012.

Boys runners win in Norwood Young America

The White Hawks cross country team finished successful at their cross country meet last week at Norwood Young America's Baylor Park, including team and individual first place finishes.

The Mound Westonka High School girls tennis team won one of their three recent Wright County Conference matches last week and took second place at a weekend tournament.

Mound Westonka-Holy Family swimmer Kenzie Braden stood on the medal stand at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center twice in 2010.

Girls Swim & Dive Remains Undefeated--  

Ranked Fifth in State 

The MWHS-Holy Family girls swim and dive team is ranked first in Section 3A and fifth in the
state after their winning streak continued last week with a dual meet win against Orono and a first-place finish at the Watertown-Mayer-Delano Invitational.

White Hawks defeat Glencoe-Silver Lake, Hutch 

The MWHS boys soccer team defeated Glencoe-Silver Lake and Hutchinson in away games Sept. 18 and 20. The White Hawks face Providence Academy at home on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

MWHS Girls Soccer Dominates--

Two Shutout Victories

The White Hawks redeemed themselves after falling 8-0 to Orono by defeating Glencoe-Silver Lake and Hutchinson 6-0 and 9-0 respectively. Their next home game is against Providence Academy on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m.

 

White Hawks Volleyball Still Flying High--

Conquers Season's Toughest Opponent 

The MWHS volleyball team soared through three wins last week, defeating Watertown-Mayer, Central and Dassel-Cokato, arguably the toughest team the White Hawks have faced this season.
