WESTONKA ANNOUNCES

Hilltop Primary Named
National Blue Ribbon School

The Westonka School District congratulates Hilltop Primary School on being named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School!

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 269 schools from around the country as 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels.

Hilltop Primary was one of only seven schools in Minnesota to be awarded a Blue Ribbon this year.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes schools in one of two performance categories: "Exemplary High Performing" or "Exemplary Improving." Hilltop was awarded under the "Exemplary High Performing" category, in which schools are recognized among their state's highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests.

"I am very proud of our students' efforts, the support of our parents and community and the hard work and talents of our staff," Superintendent Kevin Borg said. "This success comes from these collective efforts--working together to ensure all students meet their educational goals."

The Department of Education will honor Hilltop Primary and approximately 218 other public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C. In its 30-year history, the program has bestowed this coveted award on nearly 7,000 of America's schools. Hilltop's sister school, Shirley Hills Primary, is a 2008 National Blue Ribbon School.

Congratulations, Hilltop!
