Websites Receive Certificate of Merit
 

Archery Elementary State Champs 

Westonka Public Schools have earned an Honorable Mention Certificate of Merit for the district's websites and eNewsletter from the Minnesota School Public Relations Association (MinnSPRA) for outstanding communications in the publications and electronic category.

 

The district's websites and eNewsletter impressed the judges with their strong design and user functionality. The judges said they are examples of exemplary work in school public relations. The MinnSPRA STAR Awards program is designed to showcase quality work from school communicators across the state.

 Athena Award Winner Emily Halvarson--

Outstanding Female Athlete for 2012

Archery Elementary State Champs

MWHS senior Emily Halvarson is the 2012 Athena Award winner. Candidates for this "outstanding female athlete" award must demonstrate excellence in individual or group sports.

 

Halvarson will represent MWHS at the 40th-annual Athena Awards Luncheon, to be held May 4 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. She will be one of 53 outstanding senior women to be honored from public and private high schools in the greater Minneapolis area.

Archery Elementary State Champs The 2012 MWHS A.P. Art Show, "Cabinet 53," will be held at Your Art's Desire Gallery in Minnetonka from April 12 through April 26. This year's exhibit showcases the A.P. Art students: Alaina Bader, McKae Bailey, Taylor Horan, Tessa Hrkal, Jalyn Macy, Jackie Morkrid and James Woods.

Proud Tradition of High MCA Test Scores--

Annual Spring Ritual Starts April 17

MWHS Tests

Students throughout the Westonka District will take part in the annual spring testing over the next several weeks. The state-mandated MCA Tests are scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, and Wednesday, April 18, at MWHS. Students in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 will be tested in Reading, Writing, and Math on those dates. Seniors, who do not participate in the testing, will take part in the annual Senior Retreat on Tuesday, while Wednesday is a no-school day for seniors.

 

Third and fourth-grade students at Hilltop and Shirley Hills Primary Schools also begin MCA testing next week. MCA tests at GMS will begin the following week.

'The K of D'--
Dark Comedy Shines at MWHS
   

The Theater Department at Mound Westonka High School wrapped up its 2011-12 season with the spring play, "The K of D", March 30 and 31 and April 1. "The K of D", by Laura Schellhardt, is a dark comedy that centers on the urban legend of a young girl name Charlotte who was kissed by her twin brother as he died following a car accident which resulted in anything (or anyone) she kissed dying.

The District's Early Childhood program is again having its spring Kids' Stuff Sale Fundraiser. Now in its 17th year, this community-wide event will be held at the Pond Arena on Saturday, April 21, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. ($1 donation at the door).

Cyndi Loewen, Hilltop Special Ed
 

Archery Elementary State Champs

Congratulations to Cyndi Loewen, the March Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher. Loewen is a special education teacher at Hilltop Primary School. She graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm with a major in elementary education and a math minor, and subsequently earned her Masters in Differentiated Instruction from Concordia College.

Blake Brady and Mitch Spanjers combined to hold the Litchfield Dragons to 6 hits, 2 runs, and 9 combined strikeouts as the White Hawks beat Litchfield 8-2 on Tuesday.

MWHS varsity basketball players Noelle Wait (All-Conference) and Josh Haug (All-Conference Honorable mention) were selected to play in the 14th Annual Tim Orth Basketball Jamboree on Saturday, March 31 at Glencoe Silver Lake High School.

The White Hawks took a step in the right direction as they look to defend their 2011 Wright County Conference Championship with a 15-1 season opener win over the Dragons from Litchfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Valuable Experience Gained    


Five members of the Mound Westonka/Holy Family wrestling squad competed at the state wrestling tournament March 2 and 3 at the Xcel Energy Center. Although none of the wrestlers placed, they all battled hard and got some valuable experience.
