Hilltop Primary is Blue Ribbon School Nominee--

One of Eight Minnesota Schools Up for Award

Archery Elementary State Champs 

Hilltop is one of only eight schools in the State of Minnesota to be nominated as a 2012 Blue Ribbon School.

 

"Being nominated for a Blue Ribbon Award is a tremendous honor," said Superintendent Kevin Borg. "This nomination is a testament to the hard work and abilities of both our students and staff. A special thank you also goes to our supportive parents."

 Speech Team Competes at Sections--

Sends McDowell & Taggert to State

   

Archery Elementary State ChampsThe MWHS Speech Team went to the 6AA Section Tournament Thursday evening, March 22. Junior Zack McDowell won 1st place in Extemporaneous Reading and is the 6AA Section Champion in that event. Senior Ella Taggart won 1st place in Discussion and is the 6AA Section Champion in that event. Both McDowell and Taggert will be advancing to the MSHSL Speech State Tournament in Chanhassen on Saturday, April 21.

Collects 2,379 Items for Annual Food Drive

Last Friday, a group of Grandview Student Council members had the chance to ride with members of Mound's Police Department to deliver the results of the March-long food drive to the Westonka Food Shelf.

All-District Choir Concert-- 

A Joyous Sound
 

More than 300 student singers in grades five through 12 at Grandview Middle School and Mound Westonka High School came together last week to perform the All-District Choir Concert. The concert featured the fifth, sixth-and seventh-grade choirs from GMS under the direction of Kelly Newell and the White Hawks, Varsity and Concert Choirs and Madd Jazz vocal group from MWHS under the direction of Kate Larson.

The Best All-District Band Concert Yet--
325 Musicians Played Their Hearts Out
   

When MWHS Band Director Gretchen Chilson said the audience was in for a treat, she wasn't kidding. The annual Mound Westonka All District Band Concert on Sunday, March 25, featured the entire Westonka band program, grades 5-12, some 325 students in all.

MWHS Jazz Band to Play Pre-Concert Set-- 

JazzMN Big Band Sat, April 21 

 

Archery Elementary State ChampsMWHS Jazz Band has been invited to perform a pre-concert set prior to the JazzMN Orchestra's Saturday, April 21 concert with guest artist Terell Stafford. In its 11th year, the JazzMN Orchestra is billed as the Twin Cities' premier professional jazz orchestra. Their broad jazz repertoire spans classic and contemporary style, showcases outstanding jazz musicians from throughout the region, and features world-class guest artists.

Westonka Archers Hit the Mark-- 

Wallace Named Coach of the Year

 

Archery Elementary State ChampsA total of 60 Westonka students took part in the 2012 MN NASP State Tournament in Champlin Park, MN, on March 30 and 31, where one team qualified for nationals.

 

A team of 23 5th-9th-graders competed under the Westonka High School banner and qualified for nationals. "This team qualified for the 2012 NASP National Tournament based on qualifying score, and finished 6th in the High School team division despite having only three 9th-graders as the oldest team members," said Coach Mike Wallace.

Archery Elementary State ChampsWhite Hawks Youth Wrestlers--  

Compete in State Tournaments 

 

Fifteen wrestlers from the Mound Westonka wrestling program recently competed in state tournaments in Albany and Rochester. First-grader Sam Dioszeghy and eighth-grader Drake Heath both wrestled in the Northland Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) state tournament in Rochester on March 30 and 31.

TriTonka Adult & Youth Triathlon--
Fundraiser for Girls Swim & Dive  
 

Adult Sprint Triathlon
The 2nd annual TriTonka Adult Sprint Triathlon is based out of Camp Kingswood on pristine Little Long Lake in Minnetrista, Minnesota. The race course travels through the quiet rural roads of western Hennepin County. The swim is a 400-yard course, followed by a 15.6 mile bike ride and finishes with a 2.8 mile run. Awards are given for top finishes by age group and gender. All participants will receive a t-shirt and water. Relays welcome. For more information you can go to

TriTonka Youth Fun Run & Bike
The TriTonka Youth Fun Run & Bike will be based out of Mound Westonka High School in Minnetrista, Minnesota. The course and flights will be grouped by age with the run distance starting at ½ mile for the youngest and up to 1.5 miles for the older kids, followed by a bike course that will start at 2.1 miles up for the youngest group up to 5.6 miles. All participants will receive a t-shirt, participation award, and water. For more information you can go to
