New Homecoming Royalty--   

Queen Val & King Benny Crowned

MWHS King

Seniors Valory Schoenecker and Benny Haug were crowned the 2011 MWHS Homecoming Queen and King in front of a large crowd on Sunday, Oct. 2.  

 

The coronation kicked off a full week of Homecoming activities. The event included the traditional introductions of the members of the Royal Court, who were escorted by parents or family friends.  

 

The evening also included a slide show featuring the Royal Court members and special music by Jonathan Goodrich, Merv Moorhead, Ryan Strother and Parker Wharram.

Pop Singers 40th Anniversary Event-- 
Four Decades of Music "Something to Believe in"
 

Pop Singers

 

Westonka's Pop Singers celebrate their 40th Anniversary this year and invite all Pop Singers alumni to join them. The first half of the show will feature music from the last four decades and the Pop Singers will wear a selection of costumes from years past. Alumni members who order tickets in advance will be seated in a reserved section of the auditorium and be able to participate in the show's closing number.

 

When: Thurs, Fri, Sat, Oct. 27-29, 7:30 p.m.

Where: MWHS Little Theater

Tickets: Preview Thurs: $2 person for families w/children under 10 & /or Westonka students or staff w/I.D. Tickets for Fri & Sat $7 adults/$5 students & seniors; week-end price includes refreshments after the show.

League of Women Voters Candidate Forum--

The League of Women Voters of Wayzata/Plymouth is hosting a candidate forum for Westonka School Board candidates Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School Little Theater. Residents are invited to submit questions for the candidates to the league prior to the forum at

It's a Carnival, It's a Festival--
It's Hilltop Octoberfest Oct. 15
 

 

Hilltop OctoberfestHilltop's PTA's annual Octoberfest carnival features games, prizes, food and a silent auction with themed classroom baskets. Proceeds from the carnival, which is the PTA's largest fundraiser, fund a variety of activities for the school throughout the year, including Adventures in Art, scholarships, The Operetta, Specialist in Residence and more.

GMS Jenny Naslund Feature TeacherOctober's Feature Teacher is Jenny Naslund. "Jenny is the perfect example of what a 21st Century teacher should be," says Principal Christine Zachow. "Her classes focus on skills that help prepare kids for the 21st Century, such as collaboration, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking...She revamps...every course...to utilize the latest technology so that her kids are well prepared for the future. She works tirelessly to keep her classes cutting-edge, relevant, and engaging..."

Stroll-A-Thon Raises Funds 
   

 

ECFE Stroll-A-ThonDozens of youngsters and parents took part in the 2nd Annual Westonka Early Childhood Stroll-a-Thon on Sat, Oct. 1. Bikes, strollers, and scooters joined walkers as they took to the Dakota Rail Regional Trail in downtown Mound on a beautiful fall morning. Superintendent Kevin Borg welcomed the crowd, cut the ribbon and then they were off!   

 

Refreshments, prizes, and outdoor fun were all part of the event.

The annual homecoming Powder Puff game took place on Wednesday, October 5 at Haddorf stadium at MWHS. The Powder Puff football game is sponsored by the senior class parents and is a fund raiser for the senior class celebration.

GMS Future Cities Team will be featured on the Green Power hour this coming Saturday at 10AM on AM950-KTNF.  

Grant Henkles, Erika Whaley, Sheridan Nygard, and GMS teacher Jenny Naslund will talk about the Future Cities competition and the alternative energy sources the team came up with for their essays.

 

White Hawks Spirit Reigns  The crowning of the MWHS High School Homecoming king and queen on Sunday kicked off a full week of activities.

Nov 8 Referendum Reminder

On Nov 8, Westonka residents will be asked to vote on three ballot questions to provide additional education funding from local property taxes for Westonka Schools:

           

Question 1:  

A no-tax-increase renewal of an existing operating levy

Question 2:  

A 15-year bond to fund deferred maintenance of district buildings
Question 3:  

A 15-year bond to fund improvements to the learning environment

Boys Take 1st at Jaguar, 3rd at Rogers

 
MWHS Cross Country continued their strong season at the Jaguar meet on Sept. 29 running past 13 other teams to a first-place trophy in the Boys Varsity 5K event.

MWHS Football scored on offense, defense, and special teams in addition to forcing five turnovers en route to a 35-8 victory over Minneapolis Patrick Henry last Friday.

Loses by 4 Points to Waconia, Falls to Litchfield    

 

Swim & Dive won their Sept 20 home meet against Metro United   
(Minnehaha, Mounds Park Academy, St. Anthony, St. Agnes, St. Croix  
Lutheran and DeLaSalle high schools) by a score of 201 to 152.

MWHS Girls Soccer is 5-7-2 overall, after a 3-0 loss to Chaska on Oct. 1. With two conference games remaining, the White Hawks are 3-3-1 in the Wright County standings.

Volleyball ChampsVolleyball Girls Lose One; Win Two--
Fall to Hutch, Take Litch & the Championship at Virginia


On Thurs, Sept 29 the White Hawks traveled to Litchfield determined to come out victorious. Sophomore Brooke Berger had an outstanding game all around with 8 kills, 13 digs and consistent serving, which helped lead the White Hawks to victory in three games.
