WESTONKA ANNOUNCES

Westonka Ranks 4th in Math and 5th in Reading  

Across the State 

 

Minnetrista, Minnesota- Westonka was again one of the top performing school districts in the state on the MCA Tests. From the primary grades to the high school, Westonka students scored strong on the statewide tests. Overall Westonka students scored #4 in the state in math and #5 in reading.

 

"The MCA tests are an accountability measure. Our teaching staff's talents and efforts, coupled with the abilities and efforts of our students, have proven again that our district meets high standards," says Superintendent Kevin Borg.

 

Highlights from this year's scores are:

  • Grade 3 and 4 scored # 1 in the state in reading
  • Grade 3 ranks #2 in the state in math
  • Grade 4 is in the #5 spot in math
  • Grade 5 is #3 in the state in math and #4 in reading
  • Grade 7 ranks #8 in reading
  • Grade 10 reading scores are #1 in the state and #5 in science
  • Grade 11 math ranks #8 in the state

"Westonka had another banner year with our state accountability assessments," says Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Mark Femrite. "There are always specific grade levels that can do better and we will tackle those areas this year as we prepare for the 2012 state assessments. The district's teachers and principals appreciate the partnership that has been established with parents and students when preparing for these high-stakes tests."
