MWHS AP Scholars Lead the Pack--

90 Could Earn College Credit; 18 Earn Distinction

Awards AP Scholars GreerEighteen students at Mound Westonka High School have earned the distinction of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Exams administered in the spring of 2011.

Outdoor Assembly Recognizes Q4 Achievements

MWHS Q1 Assembly

MWHS kicked off the new school year at Haddorff Field Tuesday morning with a Welcome Celebration Assembly highlighting student achievement from fourth quarter last year. Recognition was given to students in the following categories: 4.0 GPAs, 'A' honor roll, most improved GPAs, perfect attendance, Random Acts of Kindness and the highest MCA scores from last spring.

Rasmussen & Shukle Sing with State's Best--

MWHS Students Chosen for All-State Choir
Choir All-State SingersThe vocal music program from Mound Westonka High School sent two Concert Choir students to All-State Choir at St. Olaf College in Northfield the first week in August.

Junior Monica Shukle and senior Katie Rassmussen sang with the All-State Choir this summer.

Summer Robotics Academy--
Gets Participants Interested in Engineering
 

Robotics 

This summer was the second year for the robotics program which is sponsored through Westonka Community Education. Last summer's class led to the formation of a Midwest Robotics Team group as a high school activity. The year-long team, which had roughly monthly competitions, involved the building and launching of "Battle Bots."

MWHS Wind Ensemble Performs-

9/11 City-wide Ceremony Remembers Everyday Heroes

Band Plays at 9/11 CeremonyUnder the direction of Gretchen Chilson, the Mound Westonka Wind Ensemble performed patriotic music at a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11, which marked the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on our country. The event was held at Veteran's Park in Mound, site of one of the first permanent Sept. 11 memorials in the nation.

MWHS Senate Officers 2011

 

Every Friday morning at 7 AM, a dedicated group of MWHS students meets to plan events designed to promote spirit and participation within the school. The Student Senate serves as a liaison to the community, letting everyone know what is happening in the school.

On November 8, Westonka residents will be asked to vote on three ballot questions to provide additional education funding from local property taxes for Westonka Schools:

           

Question 1:  

A no-tax-increase renewal of an existing operating levy

 

Question 2:  

A 15-year bond to fund deferred maintenance of districtbuildings

  • Estimated tax impact on $300,000 home = $9/month

Question 3:  

A 15-year bond to fund improvements to the learning              environment

  • Estimated tax impact on $300,000 home = $4.50/month
