Morsels From the Editor
by Colleen Spiro

Welcome to the March 2012 issue of Prayerful Morsels!

We are nearing the end of the first week of Lent so I am taking some time to look at my plans for Lent and see if I need to change anything. (Of course, I do.) I write about that in Keeping It Simple. I also share My 3 R's of Lent.

And in Prayerful Pondering, I simply reflect on my need for silence.

I found the Hymn to Christ by John Paul II in a book called Life for the World, A Way of Eucharistic Adoration for Today, by Marie Paul Curley. It is a beautiful prayer for anytime but especially Lent.

Please Note - The next issue of Prayerful Morsels is due on Good Friday. Since there are 4 Fridays in March, I think it will work out better for all of us if I send it a week earlier on March 30. Holy Week is such a special week and I do not want to crowd it with a list of things to do. In other words, (here I go again), let's keep it simple.

Any comments or suggestions, be sure to write a Letter to the Editor.
Prayerful Quote

"It is the heart that experiences God, not the reason." - Blaise Pascal

Keeping It Simple
by Colleen Spiro

Lent is a week old and I have already overburdened myself. Already I have to start to let go of things. Already I have been trying to do too much! Ugh!

Simplify. Simplify.

I said at the beginning that I wanted to simplify but I haven't done so. Maybe this is how the Lord gets me to let go of things - let me make a growing list until I realize I cannot do it all! Sigh.

So. I am cutting down to 1 devotional a day, 1 book to read, weekday Masses when I can AND really important - rest, rest, rest.

Why do I go through this every year?

Prayerful Pondering
by Colleen Spiro

Abbot Pastor said: Any trial whatever that comes to you can be conquered by silence. - Thomas Merton, Wisdom of the Desert

This is so true. It is especially true if I spend some time in silence before the Blessed Sacrament.
Spend a few minutes in silence and peace comes to me. Spend a few minutes in silence and answers come to me. Spend a few minutes in silence and acceptance comes to me.
I may still leave the chapel with tears and a heavy heart. But the heart is made a little lighter by that silent time with God.
Silent time with God - a time when heart speaks to heart.

My 3 R's of Lent
by Colleen Spiro

1. Time to renew
It is time to renew my prayer life. Renew my relationship with God. Renew my spiritual life

2. Time to refocus
I know I sound like a broken record! I get so caught up with my things-to-do list.
Lent is a time to pay attention to my priorities and to refocus my gaze on who needs to come first - Jesus.

3. Time to remember
Lent helps me to remember what matters most - my relationship with God, with my hubby, with family, my health. While I pray to be open to the new, I also look forward to the traditions of my family during Lent.

Why do you love Lent?

Hymn to Christ
by John Paul II
Christ of our sufferings,
Christ of our sacrifices,
Christ of our Gethsemane,
Christ of our difficult transformations,
Christ of our faithful service to our neighbor,
Christ of our pilgrimage
Christ of our community,
Christ our Redeemer,
Christ our Brother! Amen.
