Personal Pondering

"O Lord, my God, When I in awesome wonder"

I love that song - How Great Thou Art. I know I am not alone. Have you ever noticed how many more people join in when it is sung at Mass?
It is such a beautiful song of praise. "The lofty mountain grandeur"... "the gentle breeze" ... "my burden gladly bearing."
And there is that first line - "in awesome wonder."
Have you ever truly felt awesome wonder? I have - when I am not too busy trying to get through my things-to-do list. When I am not too busy to take a moment of silence. When I am not too busy to notice the beautiful sunset or the sweet tune of a songbird.
There is a great line in the movie, The Color Purple. One of the characters says to Celie that she thinks that God gets really upset  "when you walk by the color purple in a field and don't notice it."
How many gifts does God give us that we just do not notice? Much less look at in awesome wonder?

Dear Lord, grant me the grace of wonder. Surprise me, amaze me, awe me in every crevice of your universe. Delight me to see how Christ plays in ten thousand places, lovely in limbs and lovely in eyes not his, to the Father through features in men's faces. Each day enrapture me with Your marvelous things without number. I do not ask to see the reason for it all; I ask only to share the wonder of it all." - Abraham Joshua Heschel

Giving Thanks

T
- Thanksgiving - OK, maybe I took the easy way out picking Thanksgiving Day for the 'T'. But Thanksgiving is such a great holiday. It reminds us to give thanks for all our blessings. It brings families together.

H - Home, Husband -  I am a homebody. I love being home. But I am not just talking about a physical place. Home is where my husband is. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of my husband. Home is where Jesus is. Thank you, God, for the gift of your Son.

A - Awe - I am so grateful for the gift of Awe! To see life and nature and the presence of God with eyes of wonder is such a joy.

N - Nourishment - Thank you, Lord, for the food you give us and for the spiritual nourishment also.

K - Kites, Kingdom - OK, "K" was tough. I have always loved flying kites. There is a feeling of freedom watching kites float on the wind. And thank you, Lord, for your Kingdom here on earth.

S - Sacraments, Scripture - Thank you, Lord, for Sacraments - for these encounters with You. Thank you for your Words of Love and Life.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
