Morsels From the Editor
Welcome to this issue of Prayerful Morsels.
Important note: There will be no issue in 2 weeks. My son is getting married next week and I will be a bit busy with wedding and family, etc. The next issue will be in 4 weeks, August 28th.
In this issue, with the wedding on my mind, I ponder the passing of time. And since today is the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, I share his Prayer of Surrender.
Be sure and recommend Prayerful Morsels to your friends and family. They can sign up at my blog, Thoughts on Grace. Or click on the link at the bottom of this issue that says Forward to a Friend.

Any comments or suggestions, be sure to write a Letter to the Editor.

Keep the light of Christ always burning in your heart - for he alone is the Way to walk. - Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Personal Pondering
by Colleen Spiro

My youngest son is getting married in a week so you can probably guess what I am pondering in my heart.
Where does the time go?
Seems like yesterday when I brought him home from the hospital. Seems like yesterday when he walked around as a 4 year old wearing cowboy boots. Seems like yesterday when I taught him how to parallel park in the church parking lot.
Now he is a high school English teacher and a football coach. And he is getting married in a week.
Where does the time go?
It is at a time like this that I truly understand what it means to live in the moment. If we keep looking forward to tomorrow, we miss today. I tried very hard to cherish each day with my sons. Still, the time went by too fast.
Now I find myself turning more to Mary. I know that she knows what is in my heart. I feel closer to her at times like this because I know she understands very well what it feels like to let go of your son.
I turn to Jesus, too, and I ponder His love for His mother. Even while He was suffering on the cross, He was concerned about her, making sure she had a son to take care of her when He was gone.
Mothers and sons. What a gift.
Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with two sons. Watch over them and their wives and guide them as they make new memories of their own. And help them to cherish every moment of every day. Amen.
Surrender
by Colleen Spiro

St. Ignatius' Prayer of Surrender:
Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all I possess You have given me: I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these I will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more.

Surrendering to God seems so difficult to do. But it isn't about losing anything.  It is about making the choice, day by day, that we belong to God. By handing ourselves over to Him, as St. Ignatius says, we "will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more."
A Gratitude Journal

"If the only prayer you ever say in your life is thank you, it will be enough." Meister Eckhart

I am so grateful that my children treat me with respect and speak to me respectfully and kindly. I have been in public several times recently, and sadly, have heard or seen quite the opposite between children, teens, and parents. It made me want to thank my children for the kindness and honor with which they treat me. - Judy

I'm so grateful for all the blessings we received from our Florida faith community. It continues to sustain us and has become the standard by which we measure our current faith sharing. I'm grateful and appreciate silence as the golden opportunity to allow God to insert Himself into my life. And, as a couple, Dennis and are especially grateful for finding a ministry (Retrouvaille) that has enriched our marriage and motivates us to help others. Missing you all - Helene

I know God is with me so many times. When I'm a little depressed, when I'm worried about a good friend's daughter who is dying of cancer. Also when my children's welfare is on my mind. He has been so good to me in many ways. Sometimes you may think he has forgotten you but he hasn't. He loves everybody all the time. Thank you, God. - Carol (Colleen's Mum)
