Morsels From the Editor
Welcome to all of our new subscribers. Hope you enjoy these morsels about prayer and the spiritual life.
In this issue: In Personal Pondering, I write about surrendering to God. In Prayer Byte, I talk about the importance of silence.
We had no submissions for the Gratitude Journal, so I wrote a list of my own. How about letting us know what you are grateful for? It helps us all to see what God has done for us. Write a Letter to the Editor (see below) and write Gratitude on the subject line.
Here are some blog posts I have written recently: You can click below to read them.

Any comments or suggestions, be sure to write a Letter to the Editor.
Prayerful Quote
Our part in prayer is to try to raise our minds and hearts to God, to spend time making the effort. Trying to pray is prayer, and it is very good prayer. The will to try is also His gift.
-Cardinal Basil Hume
Personal Pondering
by Colleen Spiro

Feelings are feelings. We cannot help feeling the way we do sometimes. But we can help what we do with our feelings.
I can remember one time when I was extremely jealous of a person. I didn't like feeling that way, but I could not seem to stop it. I didn't know how to get rid of it.
So I prayed. I pray a lot and I prayed every day and I prayed every time I saw that person. I do not remember how long it took. Weeks and weeks it seemed like. But one day I saw that person and the jealousy was gone. Disappeared.
I try so hard to do everything myself that sometimes I just get in God's way. Letting go and letting God is not always easy to do. But this was one time I had no choice. It is at times like this I learn to surrender and trust. These are hard lessons. But good ones.
I wonder if I will remember to surrender next time.
Prayer Byte
by Colleen Spiro

Unless there is a still center in the middle of the storm
Unless a person in the midst of all their activities preserves a secret room in their heart where they stand alone before God,
Unless we do this we will lose all sense of spiritual direction and be torn to pieces. - Anonymous forth-century desert monk*

Silence. I crave silence. If I do not get enough silence, I cannot write, I cannot pray, I cannot think. And I get grumpy.
Silence allows us to listen to God. Silence allows us to hear His voice instead of hearing our own voices. Silence allows us to hear God in the rest of the day, in the midst of the noise, in the midst of our daily activities.
We can observe silence while folding the laundry, while waiting in line, while taking a coffee break alone.
No matter how you pray, even if your prayer is one of lots of words, everyone needs some time of silence every day, even if it is just for 10 minutes.
Try it. You may be surprised.
