Prayerful Morsels
Tidbits of Inspiration & Information

Morsels From the Editor
I love the Easter season, don't you? It is all about new life. It is a time of hope and wonder. Let us enjoy each day and thank God for his many blessings! I really love the Prayerful Quote I found for this issue. We need to learn to live in the moment. We need to remember to make time and space for God. In this issue, in Prayer Byte, I write about keeping a prayer journal. In Personal Pondering, I confess that I am a worrier! I guess I am still a work in progress! Any comments or suggestions, be sure to write a Letter to the Editor. |

Prayerful Quote
Each of us needs an opportunity to be alone, and silent, to find space in the day or in the week, just to reflect and to listen to the voice of God that speaks deep with us. Our search for God is only our response to his search for us. He knocks at our door, but for many people their lives are too preoccupied for them to be able to hear.

Personal Pondering
by Colleen Spiro
I love the scripture reading of Matthew 6:24-34. It
is the one where Jesus tells us not to worry so much.
Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Mt 6:27
I am a worrier from way back. I can remember worrying even as a child. And while I understand what Jesus is telling us here, I have a difficult time living it out. I feel comfort when I read it, but then the very next day I am back to worrying. The funny thing is, I tend to worry more about the little things in life. When a major crisis hits, I am like the Rock of Gibralter. I sense God's loving and strong presence and I hang on. I think I worry about the little things when I am not living in the present moment. I worry because I am living in tomorrow or in yesterday and God is not there. God is eternal and therefore God is always in the NOW. God is in the present moment. St. Benedict says in his Rule (4:47) - Keep death daily before your eyes. One way to interpret this is - live life fully today for who knows what tomorrow may bring? And what if tomorrow does not come? We need to seize the day. Live each day like it is our last one. Live life fully. And remember what Jesus told us - Worrying does not add a single moment to our life-span. |

Prayer Byte
by Colleen Spiro
Journaling is one way of praying. If you enjoy writing, it would be
good to try. There are many ways to journal. One way is to write God a letter and tell him
what was going on in your life or in your heart at that moment. Share your feelings and hopes and worries. Read scripture and then write about what you have read and any insights you have received about God
and faith.
Other things to journal about: your prayer life, any spiritual book you may be reading, where you encountered Christ that day. Write your prayer requests and record when and how God answers your prayers. If you journal in the evening, you can do an examination of conscience and write down about the times
you think you may have turned away from God during the day.
You can write a Gratitude Journal like we have here in this newsletter,
writing down 3 or 5 things you are most grateful for during the day.
You can write your journal on scraps of paper or in a notebook or you can write it on the
computer. There are even programs you can use to keep a journal. Just google prayer journal. Keeping a prayer journal helps the rest of your prayer life. It helps you to stay focused on God. And reading it months later can help you to see how much you have grown or changed in your spiritual life. Everyone is different. Each of us will use a prayer journal in different ways and not all people feel called to journal. If God leads you to journal, you can be sure He will use it to bless you in some way. |
A Gratitude Journal
by Colleen Spiro
Tomorrow is Mothers' Day and
so my thoughts are of my mother who passed away eight years ago at the age of
91. I am so grateful for her. She was very loving, caring and a beautiful
person. She was very close to God and the whole family went to church every
Sunday. My daughters, Colleen and Cindy, are wonderful mothers, too and I thank
God for bringing them to me. Carol
I am grateful for a forgiving
God, a God of Love, a God of Mercy. He has shown me this time and time
again ... I
am so full of gratitude that the Lord has planted me in my faith. I am nothing
without Him and I give Him all thanks and glory. I am also blessed
because of our Holy Mother, Mary. She is the queen of my heart and I know
I have no way of ever repaying her for her protection and care and love. ... May I go to Jesus through Mary -
she will bring you to Him every time and I am grateful for this ... I am grateful for my family, friends,
Pastor, Deacons, nuns and all who teach the Catholic faith... I want to spend
the rest of my life in service to the Lord ... Maria
What are you grateful for today??? Is there something that you would like to thank God for and would like to share? Write to the Editor and put in the subject line - Gratitude. | |
