Prayerful Morsels
Tidbits of Inspiration & Information

Morsels From the Editor
I hope you are all having a blessed Easter season!
Last issue I took a poll about my new blog design. The poll results were about 50-50 so I chose a 3rd design! Please pay a visit to my new blog. Hope you like it! And thank you for your input!I have started a new column, Letter to the Editor. Feel free to write a comment or suggestion. Be sure and let me know if you want it published or not. In Personal Pondering, I discuss Sabbath Moments and how longing for God becomes a prayer. In Prayer Byte, I discuss the need to pray in the same place everyday. Hope you enjoy! God bless. |
Letter to the Editor
Dear Colleen, Your pondering reminded me that God created us as
human "beings" not human "doings". All we
do comes from who He created us to be and not the other way around. Thanks for
the reminder. - Dianne Vass

Prayerful Quote
I desire to be all silence, all adoration, to penetrate ever deeper and deeper into God, and to be so filled with God that I may by my prayer give him to those who do not know him.

Personal Pondering
by Colleen Spiro
I am called to
stillness lately. Very strongly called. I have been so busy - too busy - and
have such a long to-do list. I think God is asking me to Slow down. Stop. Rest.
Be Still.
I read about
Sabbath moments on Terry Hershey's website and that calls to me as well. Sabbath
moments are about being still. Moments like taking a walk. Or sitting by the ocean
and watching the waves. Or listening to the birds sing. Or watching the sun set.
Or listening to some music.
Besides Sundays, Sabbath
rest can be in moments every day throughout the week: when we focus on God, when
we stop and remember the Lord, when we stay still, and rest in God's presence.
When we long for Sabbath
moments, we long for God. And then these moments become a prayer in and of
themselves.
"But there is
another and interior way of praying without ceasing, and that is the way of
desire. Whatever else you are doing, if you long for that Sabbath, you are not
ceasing to pray. If you do not want to cease praying, do not cease longing." St Augustine |

Prayer Byte
by Colleen SpiroMany of us know that praying at the same time everyday is a good idea,
but praying at the same place is also important. After all, Jesus chose certain
physical places to pray like the mountains and the desert.
Everyone who knows me knows that my favorite place is the beach. As
soon as I arrive at the seashore, I feel an inner peace. I can always pray
there and am often inspired to write there. But I can't go to the beach
everyday, so I need a place at home where I can pray.
A special room set aside for prayer is the ideal sacred place. You can
light candles and play sacred music. You can close the door and leave the world
outside for a little while. However, not everyone has an extra room.
A prayer chair can be a good idea. Or you can set up a table in a
corner of a room with candles and a bible and a crucifix. Maybe you have a
porch or patio or a favorite window. A prayer mat on the floor works well for
some people.
We can pray anywhere, but to have the same place at the same time helps
us stay faithful to prayer. When we settle into our favorite sacred space, our
mind seems to recognize that it is time to pray and we are able to focus
better. A
brother went to see Abba Moses in his hermitage at Scetis and begged
him for a word. And the old man said, "Go and sit in your cell and your
cell will teach you everything."

A Gratitude Journal
by Colleen Spiro
I am thankful for my Father. I am thankful for my
Jesus, and his mother Mary, for all the saints and our church. I am grateful
for our Parish, our Pastor, our Deacon and our community. I am so grateful and
blessed to be part of such an alive community that at times I have to pinch
myself and ask if all these people are real. I ask God to be able to gave back
because I feel in debt for all I am receiving. God Bless You, Colleen and
everyone,Yuri Perez
Tonight as I sat in chapel I just asked Jesus to help me. I am sooo
grateful for the time I had with my daughter. God is such an awesome God. I
know she is at peace and I am okay with that. God has given me such a peace
with this sudden tragedy. I especially thank you for your column tonight. Ann
What are you grateful for today??? Is there something that you would like to thank God for and would like to share? Write to the Editor and put in the subject line - Gratitude. | |
