The Quest for Love

There have been an abundance of literature, sonnets, ballads and operas created throughout the ages devoted to the quest for love.  From the poetry of Blake, Byron, Coleridge, Shelly and Wordsworth to the extensive literary works of Jane Austen, much has been writen about  the intrigues, intricacies and trials of romantic relationships.  Then we have Wagner's opera which tells the story of Tristan and Isolde, and Shakespeare's famous play, Romeo and Juliet.

In Hindu Culture there is the well known story of Krishna and Radha, depicted in the Ramayana, and the works of the famous Sufi poets, Rumi, Hafiz and Kabir, who write about love in the form of the soul longing to connect with the Divine.  The mythology surrounding the quest for love appears to be timeless.

This romantic myth is alive and well in astrology charts too. If we believe in reincarnation, we can only imagine how many lifetimes we've searched for, and longed for the experience of emotional fulfillment through various kinds of relationships, especially of a romantic nature.  Based on our past experiences, we each carry an individual 'myth', which is also part of the 'collective' myth centred around the romantic experience.  It's beneficial to have some insights into own tendencies and patterns in regards to relationships.  By doing so, we have a much better chance of making healthy choices and participating in relationships and partnerships which are growth oriented and fulfilling.

The Natal Chart is a good place to start when it comes to identifying astrological aspects (relationships between planets), and patterns which shed light on the nature of our individual search for love, romance and emotional fulfillment.

Here, I'll review the Natal Chart of Prince William, and focus on specifically on themes associated with the  desire for love, romance and emotional fullment, through exploring activity around the relationship oriented planets of the Moon and Venus.

 Prince William's chart

1)  MOON: (Emotional needs, desire to be understood and accepted, relationship with mother and capacity to enjoy domestic aspects of life).  Born on an eclipse, as evidenced by the Sun/Moon conjunction in Cancer in the 7th house (relationships & parnerships), this combination indicates great emotional sensitivity, the capacity to be affectionate, playful and shy with strangers, and also reveals a deep desire to be loved and nurtured by one's partner.  The Moon represents one's emotional needs and sensitivity, along with the ability to express those needs and have them met.  It also relates to a desire to be protect ive of those we love.

Neptune opposite the Moon (and Sun),  amplifies the desire to be loved and to lose oneself in the experience of love.  This can also indicate placing one's mother on a pedestal, which of course, in this case, the collective has done with regard to Princess Diana.  This placement can help us develop compassion and wisdom, as we come to understand and accept the foibles associated with human nature.

Jupiter in Scorpio (9th house), makes a harmonius trine to the Moon (and Sun), which lends itself to feeling especially happy and expanded when traveling and visiting other countries, and when involved in activities which uplift the spirit.  This placement shows generosity towards others.  Pluto in Libra (9th house) makes a harmonius trine to the Moon (and Sun), which indicates the capacity for psychological depth, and ultimately, emotional growth.

Uranus in Sagittarius (11th) inconjuncts the Moon, and Mars in Libra (9th) squares the Moon, aspects that are known to stimulate flashes of anger, followed by an urgency to pull back emotionally, and remove ourselves from others,  when we  feel trapped or obligated by the expectations of others.  Uranus and Mars represent the need for physical activity, especially that which involves, speed, risk and daring and the 9th house connection, represents spontaneous trips and travel.

2)  BOOMERAGE PATTERN: (Like a Yod pattern, with the addition of a planet which is in direct opposition to Focal planet).

A Boomerange pattern brings to our attention the importance of understanding how we 'act out' the energies of the focal planet in this pattern, and the stimulation received from the other planets in the pattern, which are in quincunx and opposition to the focal planet.  If we are aware of our actions, and the driving force behind them, our actions are not as likely to 'boomerang' back to us.

The Planets in the Boomerange Pattern are:

VENUS:  In the chart of Prince William, the planet associated with love and romance, Venus, is in the sign of Taurus and placed in the house of romance (5th).  This planet and its position is significant in this pattern, in that it is the focal planet.  Venus in Taurus in the 5th house suggests is known to have an eye for beauty, quality, elegance and style, romantic notions, along with artistic aspirations. With this placement, we are learning to savor the good things of life, including our sensuality, and how to moderate a tendence to go overboard with anything which is enjoyable.  In relationships, it indicates a desire for continuity, familiarity and harmony.

NEPTUNE/ASCENDANT:  Neptune (12th house) in Sagittarius, conjunct Sagittarius Ascendant, and in connection to Venus (5th), conveys an amplified idealistic and romantic bent in connection to love, desiring to 'lose' ourselves in the experience of love.  These planets in Sagittarius, the ruler of the 9th house, where 4 planets are located in William's chart, suggests the desire for this heightened experience of love becomes a 9th house 'issue', relating to the quest of the spirit to experience unconditional love.  It also has an affinity with the persona of a 'Knight', who is faithful, steadfast and can be counted upon to show great courage in the noble quest for truth and justice for humanity, while the journey also serves the purpose of transforming oneself.

PLUTO / JUPITER:  Pluto (9th house) in Libra, conjunct Jupiter (9th house) in Scorpio.  Pluto in Libra rules the 7th house of relationships, suggests the importance of coming to the realization that relationships will serve the purpose of being vehicles for our own psychological and spiritual growth.  This also speaks of learning good communication tools, and adopting a willingness to address, and work through issues which come up in all relationships.  Jupiter in Scorpio in the 9th house, which just happens to conjunct the Midheaven, and challenge Venus (5th), indicates that P. William has immense personal charisma and is not beyond 'employing' this to persuade others to adopt his point of view.

URANUS:  P. Williams's 11th house Uranus in Sagittarius makes a direct opposition to Venus (5th).  Uranus in Sagittarius speaks of a powerful desire for freedom, to do our own thing, to rebel against  the status quo and the behaviour which is expected of us.  We also will not be rushed toward making committments in relationships.  Uranus in Sagittarius likes spontaneous travel, physical activity which involves risk, daring and speed, keeping things simple with little desire for ownership, and enjoying an eclectic circle of friends. On the other hand, Venus in Taurus, which addresses one's values,  loves the feeling of ownership, building and strengthening one's estates and legacies, and those of one's family, having access to the good things of life and building trust and loyalty in relationships.

This opposition suggests P. William's dilemma in finding the middle ground between the two extremes, as outlined by the nature of the opposition. One relates to a powerful desire for freedom, adventure and limited responsibility, and the other relates to having things in place with give him a sense of stability and continuity, on the physical plane.

In Prince William's chart, close relationships serve as vehicle for tremendous growth and awareness in connection with the experience of emotional fulfillment, love and commitment.
