Jupiter in Aquarius

Jupiter will transit through the sign of Aquarius from Jan 6, 2009 - Jan 17, 2010

While Jupiter is in the idealistic, highly original and relationship oriented air sign of Aquarius, we will likely find ourselves with a desire to be a part of something larger than our own individual lives, so that we might in some way touch the universal experience and feel as though we are in some way connecting with and contributing to humanity.  At the very least, we will want to spend quality time with like minded, kindred spirits.

When exploring a sign, (such as Aquarius), we also need to take into account the ruling planet, Uranus.  The sign of Aquarius and its ruler Uranus are linked with the following attributes:

`  unconventional thinking, freedom and independence in lifestyles and individual expression

`  open-mindedness toward the views and opinions of others

`  a desire to explore and implement ideals which are original, cutting edge and ahead of their time

`  networking with like-minded individuals in the form of new friendships or through involvement with causes and ideals, groups and/or communities  of people - which may be political, intellectual, religious, spiritual, scientific, environmental in nature or involving social activism.

`  seeking inspiration through large ideas and plans which favor humanitarian issues and individual growth, equality,  justice, integrity and truth, friendship and group activity.

The transit of Jupiter in Aquarius in 2009 will likely trigger within each of us a deep desire for connectedness.  We will extend ourselves to create this in any way that is possible.  For some of us, this will mean opening ourselves up to new friendships and re-connecting with old friends - we will go where we can have access to many people at the same time - this could be in joining groups, attending events, taking classes, courses, workshops and trainings.  Aquarius has an interest in learning, in educational settings, but especially when there is an opportunity for interaction between participants.  Aquarians love the process involved in sharing information and ideas.

Whichever house Jupiter is transiting in our chart, is where we are likely to seek new involvement and fresh discoveries.  We can be especially innovative and creative with the attributes associated with this house.  So let's go ahead and explore the transit of Jupiter through each of the 12 houses.

When Jupiter is transiting the 1st house, the house associated with individual freedom through action, and a pioneering spirit, we will feel energized by going to new places and by doing things we've never done before.   Essentially, we seek new experiences which offer a renewed sense of aliveness and excitement, as we enjoy the company of others, who are also independent.  We desire to break free of routine as often as we can, find fun adventures in which we can boldly express our individuality.

When Jupiter is transiting the 2nd house, which is associated with finances and values, we can come up with innovative solutions regarding our personal and business finances.  This transit is often associated with financial gain and lucrative opportunities in general.  We feel optimistic and generous with regard to money.  This can also free us up from past restrictive ideas and habits around money and values.

When Jupiter is transiting the 3rd house, the house associated with learning, communication and self-expression, the mind seeks intellectual stimulation and is open to exploring new ideas and philosophies.  This transit favors writing, speaking and teaching.  We want to learn, study or share what we know with others and we prefer an environment in which we can interact with others.  This transit supports letting go of limiting thought patterns and believe systems.

When Jupiter is transiting the 4th house, the house associated with home and roots, we seek to expand our living situation.  This can mean moving to a larger home, remodeling our current home, purchasing our first home or relocating to another location which offers better opportunities for us to do the things which are important to use.
We may also have a desire to open our home up to others more often through social engagements or by hosting  gatherings, meetings, classes and such.  We're more inclined toward resolving differences we may have with family members.

When  Jupiter is transiting the 5th house, the house associated with individual creative expression and personal power, we will make every attempt to take advantage of new opportunities, to break new ground, for we  seek that which offers a heightened sense of aliveness and excitement.   We feel a new sense of confidence and boldness in our personal expression.  This transit can really get our creative juices flowing so we often seek to become involved in some aspect of the performing arts.  This is a great transit for working with children or for giving our own inner child more attention.

When Jupiter is transiting the 6th house, the house associated with work, health and service, we especially enjoy being involved in projects where there is a team effort kind of approach.  We seek to give a helping hand, to offer our skills and expertise in whatever way we can and we like to be productive.  We love to feel appreciated for our efforts.   In regards to health related matters, we are open to experimenting with alternative medicines, healing modalities and exercise routines.   We are drawn toward self-improvement and benefit from working with a coach or mentor or in offering these services to others.

When Jupiter is transiting the 7th house, the house associated with relationships and partnerships, we enjoy all activities in which we can do things with others.  This socially outgoing transit, favors business partnerships, even if we just team up with another or with others for short term specific projects.  If we're not in a relationship, we feel the desire to have an opportunity for companionship and friendship.   If we're in a relationship, we feel especially accepting and cooperative toward others and we seek to be fair and just in all our endeavors.

When Jupiter is transiting the 8th house, the house associated with emotional power and shared financial resources, it can bring fruitful results from past financial investments but also create immediate circumstances for attracting financial flow into our lives.  Funds may become available through the release of monies from wills, trust funds, insurance policies, retirement investments and the like.   This transit can bring insights and create shifts in regards to our emotional experience. We will likely feel more of a sense of emotional detachment than usual.

When Jupiter is transiting the 9th house, the house associated with spiritual understanding, higher learning and travel, we seek inspiration from hands on life experience and new adventures.  We are interested in other cultures, international travel, and perhaps learning languages.  We may decide to commit to a new course of study, explore a new career path, return to school to further our education or take a sabbatical which allows us to be in another country.   We may decide to take time away from our practical responsibilities in order to travel and/or take up residence in another country for a time.    We feel a deeper desire to connect with our life purpose.

When Jupiter is transiting the 10th house, the house associated with career pursuits and becoming more visible in public and social roles, we often feel more ambitious and want to step out into the world more fully.  This could mean seeking and accepting a leadership role at our place of employment or in a volunteer capacity or we may start a new business.  We tend to have renewed confidence in ourselves and our capabilities and seek to expand our horizons in whatever way we can.   We can attract a promotion and/or a raise in pay.  Our efforts are usually met with favorable responses from those in positions of authority.  If our present employment circumstances do not leave room for creative expansion, we can become bored and seek new employment.

When Jupiter is transiting the 11th house, the house associated with friendships, group activities and service oriented organizations, we seek opportunities to work closely with others who share the same vision as ourselves.  This may involve participating in a project with others or attending programs or gatherings offered by those who create a harmonious environment which fosters self-growth and connectedness.   We often feel a desire to contribute in some way and may seek a volunteer position. At the very least, we tend to be more socially active.

When Jupiter is transiting the 12th house, the house associated with exploring the inner realms of the imagination and searching for philosophical understanding, we often experience a stronger sense of oneness and wholeness.  There is often an undeniable flow and richness of spiritual experience which permeates our inner world.  Although this is one of those transits which lends itself to 'being' rather than 'doing', we can find ourselves with an abundance of creative energy flowing from our imagination, which can be channeled into artistic or altruistic endeavors.  We feel a strong sense of compassionate and devotion.

There is a significant conjunction involving Jupiter, Neptune, and Chiron which align at 20 - 26 degrees of the sign of Aquarius, mid-April through August of 2009.

To better understand the manner in which this planetary conjunction could influence us, let's explore each planet. .

The planets Jupiter and Neptune have much in common.

Jupiter rules the fiery and optimistic sign of Sagittarius, which carries the attributes of idealism, enthusiasm, intuition and inspiration.  Sagittarians love change, adventure, freedom and independence and live for the possibilities inherent in the future.  They are drawn toward travel, international and cultural interests, religion, philosophy and spirituality.  They love to be on the move, exploring, discovering, and breaking new ground.  Sagittarians do well with change, but not always as well with routine.

Neptune, an outer planet connected with the collective unconscious, symbolizes within all of us, a desire for unconditional love, to merge with that which is Divine and not of this world, which allows us to transcend the restrictions of the earthly and mundane existence.   Neptune rules the mystical and visionary sign of Pisces, a sign which inspires the romantic within us, the philosopher, the dreamer, the idealist and sparks our imagination, artistic expression and devotion.  Pisceans can be impressionable and prone to many forms of escapism for they often feel that they don't fit in very well in this world.

Chiron, often referred to as 'the wounded healer' is considered to be both an asteroid and a comet.  Chiron is associated with the quest for individual understanding and the individual's capacity for holistic understanding, which, may, in turn, lead to a healing of collective wounds and issues.   Chiron also carries some similar characteristics of Neptune.

When these three placements come together in the sign of Aquarius, the characteristics and flavors of the planets and signs just mentioned, Neptune/Pisces, Jupiter/Sagittarius and Chiron (which has not yet been identified with a particular astrological sign), are channeled through the ideals and attributes specific to the sign of Aquarius.   The Aquarian ideal calls upon us to become aware, to become conscious of what is happening in our world and to take a stand, show up, make a commitment,  become proactive in contributing in whatever way we can to make this world a better place to live, and to come together with others in the spirit of friendship and camaraderie.   We tend to really get it - that we are the change we are seeking.

On another note, when influenced by the deep, nebulous realms associated with the planet Neptune and the sometimes blind optimism associated with Jupiter, it is easy to be swept up by a larger than life vision of Nirvana so it is wise to practice discernment and take time to gain a larger perspective in what we do become involved with.

The platforms where change is most likely to take place, is as follows:

The new age movement, spiritual groups, socio/political causes, humanitarian groups which are committed to justice and equality, progressive organizations involved in implementing innovative ideas which offer reform and transformation.  We will see many new schools, organizations and businesses being established which are founded on progressive principles and innovative ideas.  We will see many grassroots meetings taking place in individual homes which will draw people together to share and study their common interests.

The bottom line is that we will feel drawn to that which uplifts us, allows us to participate, engage and connect, and offers the experience of being an integral part of a larger sense of community.   With Jupiter in the sign of Aquarius, we become curious about life, about others, about what others are thinking and doing in their lives.  We feel more inclined to stretch beyond our day to day lives, to create things, to discover new possibilities and we seek more social activity in our lives.    Jupiter in Aquarius is the perfect anecdote to balance the introspective and practical nature of Saturn transiting through the sign of Virgo (See Saturn in Virgo article).
