| Letter from the General Manager |
Franklin County Veterans Memorial is coming off its busiest quarter! We hosted the 22nd Annual Arnold Sports Festival Professional and Amateur Men's and Women's Bodybuilding, Archery and Skateboarding competitions; as well as the Annual Columbus Bridal Show, AAA Travel Show, Easy Riders, and the International Gem & Jewelry Show.
We are excited to welcome Concessions by Cox, the new exclusive caterer for Franklin County Veterans Memorial. Concessions by Cox has been in the central Ohio community for 53 years and has offices in four states-Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. They currently work with over three hundred and fifty events a year in front of over thirty million people throughout seven states.
Franklin County Veterans Memorial is also going through a transition. Once an entertainment destination Columbus, Veterans Memorial is looking to reposition itself within the community. We are still the largest auditorium in the community, we have one of the best views of the city and the river and we are looking to capitalize on attributes. We are under new management. The board of directors has retained me, Rodney Myers, as the Acting General Manager. With over 23 years in the hospitality industry, I am looking forward to working with the board, Franklin County and the community to re-establish Franklin County Veterans Memorial as the place to be for entertainment and fun. The board has also hired Touchstone Hospitality, a local consulting firm which has over 80 years of hospitality experience to evaluate and assess the needs of Veterans Memorial. Once the assessment is complete you will be able to see and feel the changes taking place.

New Things to Experience at Veterans Memorial
Women, Babies and Skateboarding
|
Each year we add new events to our list of activities to experience at Veterans Memorial. During the Arnold Fitness Expo Weekend we hosted a new and exciting event - skateboarding. Other than trying to keep young adults from skating up our walls, this was a successful first year. With limited injuries and loads of excitement, this was an event that kept energy levels high and gave the audience something new to experience.
With one new event successfully behind us, we gear up for a couple more new events and a slew of returning favorites. First, the nationally recognized Baby Bonanza and Kid's Expo is bringing everything for mom, dad, baby and child to Veterans Memorial April 10 and 11. This show will feature fashion shows, diaper derbies, dad's challenge, exhibitors showcasing their products and services, seminars and many more things for the family.
Another fun, new event this year is the Women's Living Expo coming May 22 and 23. This event will feature makeup artists, items and ideas for the home, fitness information, fashion shows, food, and more than 250 exhibitors. This weekend will bring together thousands of women for a weekend of fun.

Concessions and Catering by Cox |
|
Concessions and Catering by Cox joined Franklin County Veterans Memorial as the exclusive in-house food provider during the busiest season of the year. It was a true test to see what they were capable of doing.
When searching for a new food service provider, we wanted to bring a team to our facility that had the desire to add something special to our facility and each event we host. We accomplished that when we found Concessions by Cox.
The promise they make is "to be small enough for personal service, large enough to make each event a success. In our business, the customer is king!"
Concessions by Cox, Inc. began 51 years ago with Charles Cox selling ice cream from an ice cream truck. A lot has changed over the years, but the things that remain consistent are family owned, hands-on management, and the consistency of personal service.
We hope that you will come to an event at Franklin County Veterans Memorial and experience Concessions by Cox for yourself.

Memorial Room
Best Kept Secret in Columbus |
Most people who have visited Franklin County Veterans Memorial have only seen a fraction of the space we have available. One of the best kept secrets in Columbus for holding social gatherings is our Memorial Room. This room accommodates 100 people for a banquet and has beautiful marble walls accented by a romantic high ceiling. However, the truly breathtaking part of this room is the view. This room opens up to a patio which seats an additional 300 people. The Memorial Room and the Patio overlook the Scioto River and give guests a perfect view of the downtown skyline. We invite you to call (614) 221-4341 to schedule a tour of this room and the other less-known rooms in Franklin County Veterans Memorial.

| Stories From Our Readers
In Response to Our Newsletter |
Well, I'll date myself and say that my first experience at Vets Memorial way back in the 50's was a Gene Autry concert. Along with Roy Rogers, The Cisco Kid, Guy Madison and Hopalong Cassady, Gene Autry was a major TV cowboy star and he had a few hit songs that made the charts. The place was packed with excited school kids and the big item was a small flashlight that everyone was to turn on at points when the hall lights were turned off. I don't recall if "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" was on the program that day, but it was an exciting and memorable event for all and taking that flashlight back home with you (it probably had a red light on it, I think, so maybe Rudolph was on the program and we were all to flash it for that that number!) brought it all back once the excitement was over.
