Veterans Memorial

Letter from the General Manager
 B&W Logo
We always enjoy being a part of creating memories and watching as we see so many students participate in the many commencement exercises of both our community High Schools and Colleges.  June at Franklin County Veterans Memorial is vibrant as we observe so many people celebrating this special benchmark of their lives.

The summer at Franklin County Veterans Memorial was a fun and successful one!  We enjoyed another wonderful Red, White and Boom on a beautiful evening.  The air was filled with excitement as the attendees looked forward to what turned out to be another fantastic firework display!  It is a joy to watch the attendees bask in the patriotism and pride of the celebration of our nation.

The entertainment we presented to our attendees included Michael Card, The Singing Buckeyes and an outstanding concert by Jamie Foxx.   Our public tradeshows offered such fun activities involving specialized cats, ferret fans, antique paper collectors, toy collectors, and bead jewelry shows.  It is so much fun to watch thousands of people attend a weekend at Vets enjoying their hobbies and passions.

Fall brings us into cultural festivals such as the India Festival and Columbus International Festival.  The Universal Light Expo in October is an amazing experience offering holistic and metaphysical interests and one not to miss!  Our entertainment line up will offer exciting concerts by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, R. Kelly and also the Tyler Perry play "Laugh to Keep from Crying".

We do want to make you aware that we offer monthly parking at very affordable rates.  It is such a great opportunity for companies to secure their parking needs at great downtown location.  We also offer a shuttle during the winter months to ease what can sometimes be a chilly day.  Please feel free to inquire about group rates!  Call us at 614-221-4341 or email paul@fcvm.com and we can offer a quote.

On behalf of the Board, management and staff of our facility, we want to thank our attendees, community, show management and partners in helping us present the fun and exciting times here at Franklin County Veterans Memorial.

Diversity in Events at Veterans Memorial

Veterans Memorial is host to hundreds of diverse events each year.  Among these events is a wide range of topics and interests.

Events recognizing cultures and different ethnicities are always fun-filled educational experiences.  People are invited to experience many unique customs and food at the Columbus International Festival, held by UNA.  Approximately 80 countries are represented with crafts, clothing, food, dancing and singing.  Another cultural event we host is the India Festival, which includes cultural performances, Indian cuisine, and a fashion show.

In addition to diversity among cultural events, we also have diversity in the spiritual events we host including Columbus Prayer Summit, Christian Home Educators of Ohio, B.R.E.A.D., Gift of Light Expo, and Universal Light Expo.

Collectors don't have to look far for something up their alley.  We host a number of collector's events including Columbus Toy Show, Columbus Paper and Book Show, and the Columbus Philatelic Show, to name a few.

To sum it up, if you are a hobbyist, a collector, religious, spiritual, a motorcyclist, a golfer, a bride-to-be, young, old, renovating your home, a teacher, an athlete, a philanthropist, a politician, a musician, a traveler, a student, a lover of comedy, magic, concerts, theater, or animals, or a Veteran there is always an event for you here at Franklin County Veterans Memorial.

With so many diverse events throughout the year, it would be difficult not to find something that interests you.  For heads up on what is around the corner at Veterans Memorial, visit www.fcvm.com and join our mailing list.

Stories From Our Readers
In Response to the Spring 2009 Edition of Our Newsletter
I absolutely enjoyed this issue of the News from Your Franklin County Veterans Memorial!  What memories it brought back!

Growing up in Bucyrus, OH (60 miles north of Columbus) in the mid 40s and 50s, living across the street from this huge football practice field in which the Kenley Players used to "park" a large tent and perform stage plays that I attended during the summer.  I was delighted when I moved to Columbus in the 1960s and John Kenley (and Kenley Players) was "the" name in the city.  As a young lady from a very small town in the "big" city of Columbus in the 1960s, Kenley Players made me feel quite at home.  What a night out and an exquisite date to get dressed up, go to dinner, and then enjoy the great performances of Kenley Players at Veterans Memorial that so enriched my life in Columbus (and in Bucyrus).

Thanks so much for the memories!

Town of Franklinton

In 1797, Lucas Sullivant planned a town on the west bank of the Scioto, naming it Franklinton after Benjamin Franklin, who he greatly admired.

Franklinton is the oldest community in central Ohio and birthplace of Columbus.  Since its beginning, Franklinton has weathered many storms including devastating floods leading to the 1993 Franklinton floodwall construction.

Franklinton is currently home to many unique businesses.  COSI (Center Of Science and Industry) is located at 333 W. Broad Street and offers an informative atmosphere for those of all ages to play, explore, discover, and learn.

If you are looking for a place to relax and eat in Franklinton, you will not have to look hard.  Spaghetti Warehouse, Tommy's Diner, Phillip's Original Coney Island, and The Florentine are just a few of our staff and client's favorites located on W. Broad Street.

And, of course, Franklinton is home to Franklin County Veterans Memorial.  We consider ourselves to be in a perfect location.  We have all of the history of Franklinton as well as the easy access and proximity to downtown Columbus.  The best view of the Columbus skyline, the Santa Maria and the Scioto River are directly outside our patio doors.
