| Letter from the General Manager |
The second quarter at Franklin County Veterans Memorial was made truly amazing by the Shamrock Family Reunion, our farewell to Vaud-Villites , a myriad of exciting public trade shows and many wonderful dance competitions and recitals. We are excited to host the graduations of many students from high schools and colleges. We appreciate being a part of their very special day. Our facility's improvements continue as we have just put a new face on the trim of our building. The seventies red and orange entrances to our exhibition halls are now a fresh deep blue and our curbs and light fixtures are polished with a fresh new appeal. We want our guests to feel comfortable in their surroundings while they create a new memory with Vets. We are excited to announce the addition of a concert to the annual Christian Home Educators Convention. An Evening with Michael Card highlights the Thursday night closing of the convention. We have also just announced the return of Jamie Foxx, who will join us on August 14 - get your tickets soon, as this is always a sell out event. Join is for the best spot in town to see the Red, White and Boom celebration which is shot right from our back parking lot on July 3rd. It is an amazing view watching the fireworks right above you as WNCI orchestrates the narration and music to fit the show. Also, concessions will be available to enhance your experience. Add to your Independence Day celebration by attending the Sternwheelers Cat Show the following day. It is an absolute treat for all cat lovers. August is alive with the Buckeye Ferret Show, the Bead Street Show and of course, the Singing Buckeyes as they harmonize the evening away. As usual, there is always something fun to do at Vets! Thank you to all of our clients and partners who made Spring 2009 a fun and exciting time! John Loree, General Manager |

Plaques in Memorial Room honoring fallen Franklin
County soldiers from World War II - Photo taken by Jenni Mattinson
We are known for our concerts, tradeshows and expos, but how many people know our true mission? We were dedicated on Veterans Day in 1955 as a meeting place for our Franklin County veterans. Each year we host more than 100 Franklin County veterans meetings, free of charge. Some of the groups that meet here on a regular basis are Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, Sons of the Civil War, American Legion and the Veterans Hall of Fame. In this building, you will find plaques memorializing our fallen soldiers from Franklin County dating back to The War of 1812. There is also a room, rightly named the Memorial Room, with the best view of the Columbus skyline, Scioto River and the Santa Maria. This room holds some of the plaques dedicated to Franklin County's fallen soldiers. Visitors are welcome to stop by during business hours or call ahead to visit after hours and/or weekends. For individual and group tours, please call Michelle at (614) 221-4341. |
Shaking Things Up
What Our Clients are Doing to Stay Fresh
|
Veterans Memorial is home to many annual tradeshows, conferences and expos. These loyal clients come year after year bringing a wide range of products, services, expertise and more. These show managers must find a way to keep their show fresh each year, to keep people interested and show value to the returning and new attendees.
For example, the Columbus International Festival has been located at Veterans Memorial for years and each year, their festival is a success. In order to shake things up a bit, this year they will add ethnic culinary exhibits where attendees can watch and learn. They will also be compiling recipes from their vendors and other reputable ethnic chefs in Columbus and these cookbooks will be for sale at the festival. Another show that has come up with something new, is the Christian Home Educators of Ohio. This year they have added a concert which will be open to the public. Michael Card (pictured above) is a Christian singer who has made a name for himself over the years, and he will be performing on Thursday, June 25 at 7:30p.m. These are just a couple of examples. All of our clients are finding ways of keeping their events interesting. To stay up-to-date, visit www.fcvm.com. |
