| Letter from the General Manager |
We have charged into 2009 with an incredible first quarter at Franklin County Veterans Memorial! It is exciting for us as a facility to present so many great public events to Franklin County and the Columbus community. We are proud to say that there is always something to do for your weekend entertainment at Vets! On St. Patrick's Day, the Shamrock Club's Irish Family Reunion parade concludes at our facility to open the annual celebration. You do not have to be a 'family' member, just love Irish culture and the spirit in which it is offered. It always proves to be a good time for all. The upcoming Pet Expo guarantees fun for pet lovers of all kinds. Using both exhibition halls, they offer a weekend's worth of high energy presentations and a host of exhibitors offer all that is important to our furry friends! Cat agility, animal magic and pony rides are only a few of the many experiences offered that will bring smiles to all ages. In April, Vaud-Villities will present the final year of a 49-year-run in our theater. This organization is fortunate to acquire a new facility for 2010 that will now house their wonderful family variety shows. We are sad to see them move on after this year, but are excited about the new opportunities for the entertainers and their attendees. Please join us for their upcoming final shows at Vets. We are proud to announce that we continue to freshen our look by painting our West Exhibition Hall. We moved the scaffolds from the North Exhibition Hall into the West Exhibition Hall to continue painting, and it looks fantastic! Come take a look at us; you will be pleasantly surprised!
We thank our show and event managers, guests and attendees for a very fun and exciting first quarter! We want to remind everyone to keep checking our website, www.fcvm.com, as there is always something fun to do at Vets for your weekend entertainment.

YouTube, and Flickr, and Twitter...oh my
Veterans Memorial's Debut in Social Media |
In an effort to continue spreading the word about the excitement at Franklin County Veterans Memorial, we have branched out into the social networking world. You can now find us on Facebook, Myspace, Flickr, YouTube, and Twitter. We are in the beginning stages of each of these programs, but are excited about what these new programs can do for us. Facebook and Myspace are excellent for photo and story sharing. Our hope is that people will visit our pages to share their experiences at Veterans Memorial. We also plan to spread the word of upcoming events on both of these sites. We encourage our clients to get involved with these programs as well. We have begun sharing photos on Flickr and videos on YouTube and we hope everyone will be open to sharing their Veterans Memorial photos and videos with us on those sites. We hope to see you in the social networking world! |
| Another Successful Arnold Weekend
Veterans Memorial: Initial Sight For the Weekend Fun |
In a time when many need to cut costs and end programs and businesses, the Arnold Fitness Expo flourished. This year there were 170,000 attendees, easily topping last year's attendance. Franklin County Veterans Memorial has always been at the center of the Arnold Sports Festival. In 1976, Jim Lorimer and Arnold Schwarzenegger teamed up to promote the "Mr. Olympia" contest held at Franklin County Veterans Memorial. They continued their close working relationship when they kicked off the 1st Annual Arnold Classic in 1989. In addition to the Arnold Classic, Veterans Memorial was the initial location for the Fitness Expo which began in our North Hall in 1994. The Expo continued to gain popularity and by 2000 it had outgrown our hall. The Arnold Classic, IFBB, Strongman Finals, Amateur Bodybuilding and Arnold Fitness Training Seminar are presented on our stage. This year the Bikini contest, new to the Arnold Weekend, was added to our on-stage schedule Thursday night. Another welcomed change for the 2009 schedule was the addition of the Cheerleading and Dance competition in our North Hall. Thousands of dancers, cheerleaders and fans came through our doors for this flashy and exciting event. Each year we look forward to this event and we are already counting down the days until next year's Arnold Sports Festival, which we are sure will continue to be bigger and better year after year.
