Mo'Nique Speaks Out About Her Childhood Abuse
 
Oscar winner Mo'Nique recently announced she is a survivor of child abuse when she accepted her Golden Globe for her role in the film "Precious," which also deals with sexual abuse.
 
According to a new study, half of all childhood abuse sufferers wait as much as five years before disclosing the abuse.
 
Mo'NiqueIn fact, 16% of women never tell, while a full 34% of men keep secret forever.
 
Both genders are more likely to report the abuse if the abuser is a stranger; however, 85% of female victims and 89% of male ones are abused by someone they know.

Transformations Scholarship Luncheon May 4
 
AAA Block PartyIn its 14th year, Project PAVE partners with the community to award scholarships to graduating seniors who have risen above violence and abuse to pursue their dreams of a college education. 
 
Funds raised support Project PAVE's programs: counseling for children and youth 4 - 24 who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, and teen dating violence; and dating violence prevention education for middle and high school students about healthy relationships.

Angels Against Abuse Honor Teens Killed     
 
TDVAWEast High's Angels Against Abuse club honored the approximately 25 teens nationwide killed each year by dating violence.  Awareness activities were scheduled during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week in February.
 
Club members made posters (photo right), and wore signs around their necks telling the stories of those recently killed.   
 
Dating violence affects 1 in 4 teens. The vast majority of rape and sexual assault victims are women, with those ages 16 to 24 experiencing the highest rates of this violence.
 

 
Mortenson Construction Donates Pepsi Center Suite     
 
Teens from the East High Angels Against Abuse club enjoyed a Colorado Mammoth game Saturday night at the Pepsi Center.

Mortenson Construction, who built the Pepsi Center, donated their suite to local charities for a few games this season.

Project PAVE a Beneficiary for CFK's Community Day  
 
Each year, the Concerts For Kids'  Community Day brings 800 hundred volunteers together to complete over 4,800 hours of work in one, six-hour day.
 
Teams of volunteers will be dispersed May 22 to pre-selected non-profits within the Denver Metro area to complete multiple facility fix-up projects, including painting, landscaping, cleaning, roofing, carpeting and much more!
