Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Week February 1 - 6, 2010
Approximately one in three adolescent girls in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
Initiated in 2004 by the American Bar Association and now supported by dozens of national, state and local organizations, the call to end teen dating violence was formally recognized in February 2006 when the first national "week" was declared by Congress.
Angels Against Abuse, the student club at East High School dedicated to raising awareness of dating violence, has several activities planned for the week.
Club members will wear ribbons all week, make daily announcements about dating violence, and post 500 flags on the lawn signifying the 1 in 4 East students who will be in abusive relationships.
Ways you can help raise awareness:
- Spread the word at your school by passing out posters, or writing an article in the school newspaper
- Post to your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and blogs
- Donate to Project PAVE's teen dating violence program

In December, MTV unveiled "A THIN LINE," a new multi-year initiative to empower America's youth to identify, respond to and stop the spread of digital abuse.
Digital abuse is an emerging issue that includes behaviors like sexting, cyberbullying and digital dating abuse. The initiative includes research, documentaries, PSAs and online and mobile tools. Click here to go to the site.
Locally, the Denver District Attorney's Office teamed up with Project PAVE and the East High School Angels Against Abuse Club to create a PSA about the dangers of sexting.
