Families Thankful for Holiday Gifts
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you we are proud to report that every child on campus received new, wrapped gifts on Christmas Day. UMOM is so appreciative to every- one who donate new toys, gift cards, clothing, and other items for our families. And a big thank you to all the volunteers who worked long hours to get all those gifts wrapped. Our families truly had a happy holiday season - thanks to you! Many of you also gave the incredible gift of shelter to a homeless family as a gift to your friends, family and colleagues. Our holiday greeting card program was a tremendous success and we hope you will tell your friends, family and employers about this alternative gift idea in time for next Christmas! |
Mayor Stanton Visits UMOM UMOM residents and employees were proud to welcome Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton to the main campus on his first day in office. Mayor Stanton and his wife, Nicole, toured the facility and met with a resident family. The Mayor even mentioned UMOM and CEO Darlene Newsom in his inaugural address. Mayor Stanton has outlined ambitious goals to end homelessness in Phoenix and everyone at UMOM is ready to work with him to make it happen. |
Volunteer Spotlight: SOWERS
During the winter months UMOM is blessed with several volunteer groups from other parts of the country who come here in their own recreational vehicles and work at UMOM as volunteers. One of these groups is called "SOWERS" which stands for Servants on Wheels Ever Ready. Glen and Eunice are just two of these amazing volunteers. To read their story click here! |
Success Story:
Many residents at UMOM dream of the day they will be able to accept a job and be able to support their family. Such was the dream of Randy, a resident who had been working with the UMOM Employment Center for months to find a job - any job. Finally, in December he was offered a position but without transportation he was not going to be able to accept.
Hearing about his dilemma the UMOM team went to work! Between Kim from the Wellness Center, Sue from the Employment Center, Steve from Maintenance and Rebecca and Rachel from Case Management, Randy received a brand new bike to get him to work and back! This is the type of teamwork and passion we see everyday from UMOM employees.
The UMOM staff who helped Randy are pictured above and the entire UMOM family wishes Randy the best in his new job. |
