Do you have a system for passing on the things that trouble you most to the Higher Order in Life? What does it look like for you to let go of problems and issues?
Most people like to hold onto their issues, problems and complaints about the world around them. For most people being angry, upset or frustrated makes them feel more "alive" and part of the world than they would feel if they were to let it go. What we fail to realize is that allowing ourselves to get angry, frustrated or even annoyed damages us more than it helps.
"A growing body of evidence indicates that virtually every ill that can befall the body-from acne to arthritis, head aches to heart disease, cold sores to cancer - is influenced, for better or worse, by our emotions." Emrika Padus, Prevention Magazine. Here is the process I use to help me let go of my troubles, you may find something here that you can use as well.
1. "What do I want?" When faced with a problem or when I begin to feel frustrated, irritated, or annoyed by the world around me, or myself. I ask myself this crucial question, "What do I want?" This one question is at the core of self-coaching. Continually asking yourself, "What do I want?" aligns you with the solution, not the problem. Go ahead, ask yourself...."What do I want?"
2. "What thoughts can I think to help me feel good now?"
The thoughts you are thinking about the problem are the problem! We always have a choice how we look at any event, circumstance or person. Once you understand that the way you feel is setting up your "attractive" forces, you will make an effort to change how you think about events and in turn change what you are attracting into your life. Sometimes the answer I get to the question, "What thoughts can I think to help me feel good now?" is simply, "Think about something you love and forget about the problem for a while." or "Just take a mental break!" And I do, I will spend time with my kids, or read a book that has nothing to do with the problem, or I'll take a walk. Most times before doing anything else, I'll just take a moment to listen to the noises that are going on around me. I become present to the moment. Try it. Just listen and see how many different noises you can hear.
3. "What can I do about it?" This is the question I use to get out of my head and into action. Your subconscious mind will give you a great answer to "What can I do about it?" if you take the time to listen. Remember, your subconscious is your direct link to your Creator and all creative forces in the universe. Asking the right questions will always open your mind to infinite possibilities. Remember, always ask open ended questions. If the answer to this questions is "Not a thing!" then let it go. It is either not your business to take care of, or it is out of your domain.
4. Physically let it go!When I am at the point where I know it is not something I can do anything about and I know that thinking about it is causing me more negative emotions than positive, I do some sort of release technique that links my physical world to my mental or spiritual world. Here are a few examples.
- Write out the problem on a piece of paper and then throw it in the fire! Poof! It is gone!
- Write out a prayer of release, "God, you are the creator of all things and you say all things are good. I believe you Thank you for allowing me to experience this problem so I can fully experience the greater good that you bring. I release it all to you. I release doubt, worry, frustration, fear, pain etc. I release all the negative emotions so I can be a positive light for those around me...."
- Run like the wind! Literally, run to exhaustion. Release all of the negative through physical activity. It is very cleansing.
- Take a shower while "imagining" that your problems are being washed away.
- Get a massage, acupuncture, chiropractic adjustment or perform EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques www.EMOFree.com. All of these methods help to release energy blocks within your physical body. They are all very helpful and can give you much needed relief. I go to the chiropractor after stressful events or being in environments that make me feel icky.
JOURNALING EXERCISE: Get your journal or
a blank sheet of paper and at the top write "I let go of all that does not serve me!" Now before you begin, imagine that you are packed up and ready to climb up a mountain, your mountain! This mountain represents your journey towards success. You are ready to go and know that the view from the top will be well worth the day's journey. The air smells clean and perfect and as you begin to climb you realize that you have an extra heavy load on your back. As you take off your back pack and look inside, you pull out brick after brick. You notice that each one has a word or a person's name on it. They represent everything that is stressing you, burdening you, and keeping you from moving swiftly and effortlessly towards the summit.

Now take a minute to write every thought you have when you think
about those bricks. Do they have someone's name on them, who? Write down every thought that you think of when you think of frustration, problems and irritations and continue to write the thoughts that follow. As you ask yourself,
"What can I let go of now?"
Now imagine this...There are 3 signs and below 2 there are piles of bricks. The first sign reads, "Place your bricks here if you would like them to be returned to you when you reach the top." There is a coal cart beside it for carrying bricks up the mountain. The second sign says, "Unload half of your bricks here and they will be brought to you when you arrive at your destination half way up the mountain."
You immediately get it. If you keep half the bricks you'll only make it half way up. The third sign says, "Let go of all of your bricks forever by putting them in this pile." You look down and there is no pile! Curious you take out one brick that represents a small problem and you lay it at the foot of the sign. You are amazed as you see a white bubble emerge from the earth underneath the brick which slowly engulfs the brick and lifts it off the ground. As you watch your brick ascend, the clouds in the sky form into the shape of a hand which reaches out and pinches the brick filled bubble delicately between its fingers and in that very moment the brick and bubble turns into a dove and flies away! Wow!
Letting go is one of the most freeing things you can do for yourself on your way to your destination. Each new adventure provides new opportunities for letting go.
So go ahead, ask yourself, "What can I let go of now?"
