Deputy Director

The Reading Connections, a nonprofit based in Virginia, is collaborating with the ArtSpring Store, a community arts store for a fun-filled afternoon. Bring the kids for to enjoy read-alouds at 2:15, 3:15 and 4:15, plus great art projects.  The Art & Wine reception begins at 5:30, featuring an art sale by local and regional artists.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Reading Connection.  ArtSpring is run by dedicated volunteers and may be closed sometimes during regular business hours. In this film, Chris investigates the tragic deaths of his adopted brothers Bobby and Tyler, and confronts a painful truth that shattered his family. THE JEFFERSON CAFÉ®

The Jefferson Café® is both an event and a concept.  It provides a format for a monthly grassroots discussion focusing on topics in American life and the role of the United States in the global community.  It features no expert presenter, nor is it a membership organization or advocacy group.  Rather, it is a locus for a conversation about ideas. The group is limited to 15-20 participants so that everyone can see and hear everyone else while sitting around a conference table.  This session's topic will be "Civil and Uncivil Dialogue in America in the Era of the Town Meeting" (including an analysis and critique of the Jefferson Cafe discussion format).  The reading comprises selections from several contemporary authors and columnists who have written on the topic. MXD UNITY PEACE SUMMIT

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ARTS FESTIVAL
April 23-25, 2010
Amnesty International is planning to host its first Human Rights Art Festival in Silver Spring, next April.  The Arts and Humanities festival is a powerful way of brining cultural organizations, the community and businesses together, as well as highlighting the highest possibilities of the American social and political spheres. FIRST BOOK - MONTGOMERY COUNTY ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS
First Book - Montgomery County is accepting book grant application from local nonprofit programs serving children in need. First Book grants put brand new books in the hands of children in need to help inspire a lifelong love of reading. Grant applications are due September 30, 2009, and must be postmarked by 5:00 PM. Awards will be announced by December 1, 2009. First Book - Montgomery expects to award a mix of smaller and larger grants based on demand and available funds, type of organizations and number of children served.
