THE NEIGHBORS CAMPAIGN KICKOFF
Last week, members of the IMPACT Network from communities all over Montgomery County gathered to celebrate the Neighbors Campaign pilot program and refocus our energy toward the next steps of the Neighbors Campaign.

The thoughts and stories we heard from Neighbors Campaign participants formed a clear message:  there is still real hardship and isolation in our communities, but now, maybe more than ever, we have the energy, the passion, and the unique partnerships to create real change in Montgomery County through the Neighbors Campaign. We're geared up to meet 10,000 more neighbors in Montgomery County!

Montgomery County will help you switch to clean energy by providing a reward (half a cent per kWh) to offset the small additional cost of clean energy. FREE RIDE-ON YOUTH SUMMER PASS
If you are a Montgomery County resident 18 years old or under, you can ride any RIDE-ON bus, at any time, to any destination between now and August 31st! Just stop by the Mid-County Regional Services Center at 2424 Reedie Drive, Wheaton  20902 on a weekday between 8:30am and 5:00pm with proof of your date of birth (passport, license, birth certificate, etc.) and pick up a pass! SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR UPCOMING FALL SEMESTER AT MONTGOMERY COLLEGE
Deadline: Thursday, August 13th
A limited number of scholarships are available, pending funding, through Montgomery College Workforce Development & Continuing Education for students pursuing career path courses with the intention to obtain entry-level employment.  The scholarship is awarded for up to $1000 to cover tuition and fees. COMMUNITY WATERSHED PROTECTION PROJECTS FUNDED

The RBC Blue Water Project, an initiative of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), will provide $50 million in grants through 2017 to support programs that foster a culture of water stewardship. The initiative's funding focus is Watershed Protection and Access to Safe Drinking Water. Launched in 2008, the RBC Blue Water Project Community Action Grants are provided to local grassroots organizations in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean for projects devoted to informing, educating, and mobilizing people about watershed protection at the community level. Requests for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 may be submitted throughout the year. Click here for more information.
 
QUAKER SUPPORTS HUNGER RELIEF EFFORTS
The Quaker Oats Go Grant program provides funding for community hunger relief efforts. Each month throughout the application period, 20 grants of $500 each will be awarded to people who develop community-based projects to help combat hunger. Interested individuals (18 years of age or older) are eligible to apply; proposed projects will be evaluated based on their originality, relevance to fighting hunger, and potential impact on the community and/or individuals involved. The remaining deadlines are June 30 and July 31, 2009. Applications must be submitted through Quaker Oats' online application system. Click here for more information.

ENGLISH CLASSES
The African Immigrant and Refugee Foundation, in partnership with Crossway Community Center and CASA de Maryland, will begin a ten week English as a Second or Other Language - ESOL - session.

Morning classes:
Classes will be held three days per week(Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) from 9am - 11am, at Crossway Community Center, near the Wheaton metro, located at 1740 Upton Drive, Kensington, 20895.

Evening classes:
Classes will also be held three days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) from 7pm-9pm, at the Episcopal Church of our Savior, in Hillandale, located at 1700 Powder Mill Road, Silver Spring, 20903.

YOUTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Boat People SOS Maryland is currently seeking a part-time coordinator to launch an afterschool program for Vietnamese youth. FARMER'S MARKET ASSISTANT
The Crossroads Farmer's Market
