COMMUNITY WATERSHED PROTECTION PROJECTS FUNDED
The RBC Blue Water Project, an initiative of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), will provide $50 million in grants through 2017 to support programs that foster a culture of water stewardship. The initiative's funding focus is Watershed Protection and Access to Safe Drinking Water. Launched in 2008, the RBC Blue Water Project Community Action Grants are provided to local grassroots organizations in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean for projects devoted to informing, educating, and mobilizing people about watershed protection at the community level. Requests for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 may be submitted throughout the year. Click here for more information.

QUAKER SUPPORTS HUNGER RELIEF EFFORTS
The Quaker Oats Go Grant program provides funding for community hunger relief efforts. Each month throughout the application period, 20 grants of $500 each will be awarded to people who develop community-based projects to help combat hunger. Interested individuals (18 years of age or older) are eligible to apply; proposed projects will be evaluated based on their originality, relevance to fighting hunger, and potential impact on the community and/or individuals involved. The remaining deadlines are June 30 and July 31, 2009. Applications must be submitted through Quaker Oats' online application system. Click here for more information.

ENGLISH CLASSES
The African Immigrant and Refugee Foundation, in partnership with Crossway Community Center and CASA de Maryland, will begin a ten week English as a Second or Other Language - ESOL - session.

Morning classes:
Classes will be held three days per week(Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) from 9am - 11am, at Crossway Community Center, near the Wheaton metro, located at 1740 Upton Drive, Kensington, 20895.

Evening classes:
Classes will also be held three days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) from 7pm-9pm, at the Episcopal Church of our Savior, in Hillandale, located at 1700 Powder Mill Road, Silver Spring, 20903.

The course costs $20. Scholarships are available. Students are accepted on a rolling basis and may begin attending courses by arriving 15 minutes early to the class location on any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. For more information, contact Jessica at airf.dc@gmail.com
