TORAH YOGA FOR SHAVUOT Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 pm When God revealed the Torah to the Israelites on Mt. Sinai, they declared, "We will do and we will harken." From this we learn that the physical act of doing God's bidding opened the Israelites up to understanding God's will for them. To prepare ourselves to receive Torah into our lives on the holiday of Shavuot, we will engage in a physical practice that will help us achieve greater mental clarity so that Torah's wisdom will permeate every cell of our being. Come join us on May 27 at 7:00 pm where "We will do" a yoga practice that will better prepare us to "harken," to the teachings of Torah on Shavuot (June 8-9). |

REBUILDING TOGETHER PROJECT - 2008Report from House Captain-Greg Lisinski - We met a new friend last week. Her name is Betty. We call her "Miss Betty". When Betty would open her eyes early each morning she would see something that most of us would never want to see. She had not been able to do painting or repair work for a very long time. She was taken quite ill last year and hospitalized several times. She can get around again, but certainly not on a ladder or doing other "do it yourself" tasks like carpentry or cement work or scraping wallpaper. Let's just say she needed some help. I happen to know some people who were happy to do just that: Through the Rebuilding Together Program, we were able to bring people together from Evanston American Legion Post 42, Troop 3 of the Boy Scouts, Beth Emet The Free Synagogue (sic-Jory Lannes, Mark Fisher and Kathy Fisher) and a number of other good friends and neighbors who just wanted to help. Because of at least 30 volunteers working on April 26, 2008, were able to do something nice for a nice person. We were able to perhaps feel a bit good about ourselves for a day of good deeds and community service. But more importantly, we were able to meet a nice person like Miss Betty.
