April 9: Equal Pay for Equal Work 

Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men's and women's wages. This roundtable will discuss laws, policies and regulations that impact equal pay issues for the benefit of wage earners and job seekers.

 

April 14-21: All About Women Concert, Chicago a Cappella 

Chicago a cappella, a nine-voice classical vocal ensemble, presents "All About the Women" featuring songs in a variety of styles from every point of view about the lives and experiences of women.  Four performances take place April 14-21 in Evanston, Oak Park, Chicago and Naperville.

 

April 17: Equal Pay Day Rally

Join Chicago-area organizations in recognizing Equal Pay Day, which represents when a woman's wages finally catches up to a man's wages from December 31st of the previous year.

 

April 19: NAWBO Chicago Annual Achievement Luncheon

Celebrate the leadership and achievement of women business owners with NAWBO Chicago. Luncheon keynote presentation by Connie L. Lindsey, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility,  Northern Trust.

 

May 3: 8th Annual POWER Chicago 

POWER: Opening Doors for Women is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and develops women leaders by providing a unique educational opportunity for women within all levels of their careers to interact and exchange ideas with thought leaders, industry experts and their peers alike.

April 4: Financial Analysis: Building Your Financial Muscle with the Expert (Part of Jumpstart Series)

Dig deeper into understanding the financial pieces of running your business with insight from a WBDC finance specialist. Learn how to determine cash flow projections, create revenue assumptions and sales projections prior to listing business expenses, develop sales projections utilizing a variety of strategies, utilize financial ratios and what is essential in managing business banking relationships.

A session that helps prospective and established business owners clarify their needs and learn more about WBDC resources.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn from WBDC business counselors how to find contract opportunities in an interactive, small group format. Each session is limited to 5 participants.

 

April 11: Guiding Your Success Through Building a Business Plan (Part of Jumpstart Series)

Do you have a written business plan? This workshop is designed for both new business owners and owners of emerging or established businesses to learn all the parts of an effective plan and why it's important to get it on paper. You will write a draft of your executive summary as an outline for creating your full business plan and your planning process.

 

April 12: How to Get on a GSA Schedule: A Tool to Win Government Contracts (Part 1)

The GSA (U.S. General Services Administration) buys over 11 million items and spends more than $17 billion each year for goods and services! If you want to sell to the federal government, getting on the GSA Schedule is key as it is the preferred purchasing method for many federal agencies.  This two-part workshop series will take the mystery out of the application process and provide guidelines to help you to start or complete your GSA Schedule application. 

 

April 17: Is Certification Right for You?

Learn about certification from one of our WBDC experts. Local, state and federal certifications will be covered, along with the private WBE certification offered through the Women's Business Development Center. 

 

April 17: Take the Mystery out of Finance

Learn the Five C's: cash flow, collateral, capital, character and conditions, as well as detailed information about financing through equity, debt, receivables, purchase order and leasing. This workshop will provide real world examples and help you determine what financing options are available to you.

This presentation will cover the basics of saving for retirement and putting yourself on the right track towards a healthy financial future.  Representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor will provide information about available choices for retirement savings programs for you as a small business owner and your employees.
