The program is designed to help local small business owners create jobs and economic opportunity by providing them with greater access to business education, financial capital and business support services. October 3: Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) 5% Rule: How to Navigate and Secure Federal Contracts

If you are a woman-owned business, are you participating in the 5% goal?  In 2010, the federal government passed a new law that makes it possible for contracting officers to set-aside contract opportunities where only women-owned small businesses can compete! If obtaining government contracts is part of your strategic plan, this is an important workshop that you don't want to miss!

 

October 3: Crystal Clear Branding

Are you launching a new business, developing a website and/or reinventing your business? This workshop will help you identify and define the essence of your business and services offered; think strategically about your brand and how to position your services; create new language to articulate your capabilities to prospects and gain insight into what you do best; and, attract the right clients to maximize your business results.  

 

October 4: Green Procurement and Sustainability: Where are the Business Opportunities?

Corporations and government entities are increasingly focused on making their operations more sustainable, and small business owners need to know how this focus is impacting the procurement process.  Learn what "buying green" means for women and minority-owned businesses in this panel discussion focusing on the business opportunities in green procurement and sustainability.

Learn about certification from one of our WBDC experts. Local, state and federal certifications will be covered, along with the private certification offered through the Women's Business Development Center.

 

October 5: Do's & Don'ts Before Starting a Business & Access to Capital

Thinking of starting a business? Learn from a WBDC Finance Specialist how early financial decisions can positively, or negatively, effect your business in the long run. This workshop will discuss topics including debt vs. equity, personal financial stability and accessing capital.

 

October 6: City Licensing, Permitting and Regulations for Your Business

Have you been wondering whether you need a business license to operate your business in Chicago?  What kind and why? Where to get it? How long it takes and costs?  In this workshop you will learn about the licensing process as well as general requirements for certain types of licenses.  

 

October 6: Wisdom, Wine and Cheese (Introduction to the WBDC Services)

A session that helps prospective and established business owners clarify their needs and learn more about WBDC resources.   


October 11: Starting a Business in Illinois

Are you considering starting a business In Illinois? Put yourself ahead of the curve by attending this workshop to gain the knowledge you need to assist with a successful launch. This workshop will address: whether business ownership is right for you, exploring personal feasibility and how owning a business will impact your life.

 

October 12: Webinar: Joint Business Counseling: How to Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFP)

The WBDC is now offering Joint Business Counseling Sessions for established business owners seeking to grow their businesses through government and corporate contracting.  Each session is held via interactive webinar and is limited to 5 persons so that each participant has ample time to apply this valuable information to their own business.  If you are seeking assistance with responding to RFPs, we hope you will try this new platform for interactive, strategic planning and learning in a small group format. 

 

October 12: Identifying the Market Viability of Your Business Concept (Part of JumpStart Series)

How do you know if you have a viable idea that will thrive in the marketplace? How do you identify your business model and determine your target market? How do you do your own market research? Find answers to these questions and more by attending these sessions.

  

October 13: How to Become a Strategic Supplier to the Federal Government and Major Corporations

Are you a strategic supplier or a vendor to government agencies and/or major corporations? If you provide a high degree of value and are hard to replace, then the answer can be "yes!" Unfortunately, only about 5 percent of the vendor base qualifies for this top position in the supply chain. Learn what it takes to be there and if this is feasible for your business.

 

October 19: Reaching Your Market Strategically (Part of JumpStart Series)

Once you know who your target market and ideal clients are, you need to figure out how to reach them. You will learn how to distinguish between selling and marketing, identify features and benefits of your products/services, develop at least three strategies for marketing and more.

 

If you are looking to meet potential collaborators who are caterers, event planners, florists, photographers or videographers, then this event is for you. This Connection Points event will include plenty of networking time and a short panel presentation where resources  in each discipline share insights on  trends in the industries and other questions from participants.
