SUPPORTERS SHINE AT 47th ANNUAL DINNER

More than 400 United Way supporters filled the ballroom of the Reading Crowne Plaza recently to celebrate United Way's accomplishments and to honor the many individuals, organizations and companies that come together to create lasting change in our community.

Gerry Nau, 2010 Doran Award recipient
Gerry Nau
Gerry Nau, president of Lafayette Ambassador Bank, was presented with the prestigious Wilbur H. Doran Award in recognition of his outstanding work with United Way and in the community.  Gerry has served United Way in almost every capacity - from chairman of the Board of Directors to strategic planning to campaign co-chair. His skills as a business leader and his ability to bring together ideas and talent to strengthen our community have made him an invaluable volunteer to United Way of Berks County and a tremendous asset to our community.

In addition to the other awards presented throughout the evening (see below), highlights of the event included the announcement of the Perrotto Builders $100,000 Challenge Match in support of Leadership Giving, as well as two other challenge matches that have been secured: $50,000 from Fulton Bank, $25,000 from the Jerlyn Foundation, and $25,000 from an anonymous donor. United Way was also pleased to recognize numerous sponsors and supporters and to introduce Jeff and Virginia Rush as the 2010 Campaign Co-Chairs.

The evening was topped off with the premiere of the United Way "Boogie Shoes" video, a celebration of United Way's supporters showing off their LIVE UNITED spirit. Check out "Boogie Shoes" on United Way's YouTube channel.

Support the Letter Carriers Food Drive

         NALC food drive

On May 8, letter carriers throughout Berks County will be collecting non-perishable food items as part of the the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

The food drive will help stock the Greater Berks Food Bank for the summer months when there is a great need.

To participate, leave a non- perishable food item in your mailbox on the morning of May 10th and your letter carrier will pick up the item(s) during the regular mail delivery.  Please refrain from non- perishable food items in glass due to transporting them back to the staging area.

Thank you for your support!
