| Thank You Berks County!
In a remarkable showing of generosity, Berks Countians once again turned out in droves to help United Way meet the most critical needs in our community by raising $8,501,035.
"This was a challenging year," said Steve Schumacher, who co-chaired this year's campaign with his wife, Pam. "But we've seen time and time again that Berks County is a very generous community. We're extremely grateful to everyone who came together to help us achieve our goal."
"The needs in this community are greater than ever," said Tammy White, United Way president, "but LIVE UNITED is a call to action, and we saw an amazing display of that LIVE UNITED spirit this year. Our success results from the hard work of so many - our tremendous leadership, our volunteers, and the businesses, organizations and individuals who make our efforts possible."
On behalf of our 37 agency partners and the more than 100,000 Berks Countians who will benefit from the generosity of every contributor, thank you for your support!

Tax Preparation Volunteers Needed
In 2008, United Way of Berks County began the Berks $ in Your Pocket Coalition - a coordinated effort of organizations and volunteers who made it possible to provide free tax preparation services to hard working individuals and families. During the 2009 tax season, people just like you helped 2,549 Berks County individuals and families claim over $1.69 million dollars in tax refunds including $430,319 in Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
In these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to reach out and help low to moderate income individuals and families receive the refunds they deserve.
If you would like to learn more about how one hour of your volunteer time can boost a family's income by $1,700, click here. No tax preparation experience is necessary. | |
| Holiday Volunteer Opportunities |
With the holiday-season already upon us, we recognize that many will continue their spirit of giving through volunteerism. With this in mind, we have compiled a list of opportunities that are available throughout the community this year. Click here to view the complete list.
