Then return for the home game that night for an exclusive pool party in the Reading Eagle Pool Pavilion, featuring a meet and greet with R-Phils players, a silent auction and more free food and drink. Plus, you'll receive tons of giveaways throughout the day and memories that will last a lifetime.

United Way is Focused on Health
Partnership for Prescription Assistance: The Help Is Here Express |
| "My grandmother has Alzheimer's and my mother is struggling to pay for her medication every month."
"My husband is disabled, and we're behind on his medical bills. His prescriptions cost $1,500 a month. I don't know what to do."
"I had great insurance, but I lost my job and I haven't found a new one yet. I need this medication, but I can't afford it."
These are just a few of the stories of indviduals and families who stepped onto a bright orange bus last month seeking help from the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) to pay for their prescription medications.
PPA helps qualifying patients without prescription drug coverage get the medicines they need through the program that is right for them. Many will get their medications free or nearly free. To help individuals and families in the greater Berks County area, the PPA rolled into town with its Help is Here Express bus, a mobile information center that allows individuals to meet with counselors in a completely confidential, fully-equipped setting.
In addition to being the local organizer of the event, United Way of Berks County also distributed Family Wize prescription discount cards to everyone who approached the bus for help. The cards offer discounts on prescription medications at a large number of pharmacies in our area.
One woman, who had been carrying an unfilled prescription in her purse because she couldn't afford the medication, immediately took her FamilyWize card to CVS and filled the prescription at a greatly reduced cost. "I've been carrying this prescription for weeks," she said. "Thank you for giving me this card. I never would have gotten my medicine without it."
To find out if you're eligible for the Partnership for Prescription Assistance program, log on to www.pparx.org or call 1-888-4PPA-NOW.

Volunteers Needed for New Initiative
|
|
With the national and local economic downturn, more and more people are facing unemployment, reduced income and a greater need for food and other basic needs to live. However, many people do not know where to go for help and do not realize they may be eligible for various supports and services.
United Way of Berks County has partnered with eight local agencies throughout Berks County to create the HelpLink Network, where individuals and families can find out what benefits and services they may be eligible for, to help them through difficult times and to help them get back on the road to financial independence. United Way's partners are Berks Community Action Program, Berks Encore, Boyertown Area Multi-Service, Catholic Charities, Centro Hispano Daniel Torres, Friend, Inc. Community Services, Salvation Army: Reading Corps., and United Community Services.
The HelpLink Network will begin assisting individuals in the fall, but United Way is currently recruiting volunteers for all eight locations. To learn more, visit the HelpLink section of our website. |
