Friends, Colleagues Celebrate Karen Rightmire's Service |
Twenty years ago, a group of local community leaders searching for the next president of United Way of Berks County found the perfect candidate in Karen Rightmire. Recently, those same community leaders joined more than 300 of Rightmire's colleagues, friends and family members to honor her contributions to UWBC and to the community as she prepares for retirement at the end of June.
Led by veteran United Way Master of Ceremonies Al Weber, the evening featured live tributes and video clips chronicling Rightmire's career. It was a rousing and sentimental celebration of her accomplishments and all that she has done to make our community a better place to live, work and raise our families.
In addition to honoring Rightmire at the event, a special endowment fund has been established to support United Way's work into the future and to help meet ongoing needs within the community. We were pleased to announce that $15,000 has been raised to date in recognition of Rightmire's commitment and service. If you would like to contribute to the fund, please click here.
Karen Righmire's commitment to both United Way and to the Berks County community is unmatched. She will be greatly missed at the helm of our organization, but we have no doubt that we will continute to witness her tackling the challenges facing our community.
United Way of Berks County would also like to thank MulitMedia Staging, Inc., Crowne Plaza Reading, and VideoWorks Production Company for their support of the celebration.

Volunteers Brighten Mother's Day for Local Seniors
|
In honor of all women at Providence House in Reading, employees at United Way's Top 10 companies recently collected personal care items as part of a special Mother's Day volunteer opportunity. Employees from several of the companies then volunteered to assemble the items into personal care packets and hand-deliver them to the residents.
The activity, which was held in conjunction with Berks Encore, was a special opportunity for volunteers not only to provide much-needed items to the seniors, but also to spend quality time talking to the residents. The time spent with the seniors gave the volunteers a better understanding of why their efforts were so important, and gave them the opportunity see first-hand the impact of their work.
