2010 Goals & New Initiatives
by Stephanie Lowder, Rare Bird Creative 2010 WithIt President
First, I want to thank you for the great gift that is WithIt.
If it weren't for WithIt, many of us would still be facing our challenging workdays alone, isolated within the confines of our businesses and positions. Some would have neglected to develop the crucial professional relationships needed to navigate the labyrinths of leadership. Others might have stalled in a tricky leadership challenge - no mentor or guide to help push through to a better solution.
But not here, and not now.
Now in our second decade, those who make their living by connecting people tell us that WithIt is the best network in the home and furnishings industries. We're in a position to have greater impact, to advocate for our powerful membership base, and to help partnering companies step into the greatness of this moment.
Today, we launch a three-year GROW campaign to increase membership and expand the market segments which we serve.
Why grow? Simple... to develop the necessary resources (staff, funds, base) to accomplish that which members say you need and desire: thought leadership, a continuing education program, our Web site transformed into an interactive learning hub, expanded regional activity, and more service benefits and discounts for members.
How to grow? Research shows that non-profits grow by specific means, including clarity of purpose and sharing of stories.
Our cause is clear. WithIt exists to encourage and develop education, mentoring, and leadership opportunities for women - a critical talent pool. We recognize, connect and support women who have achieved top leadership. We mentor, teach and encourage those who aspire to grow their leadership.
WithIt success stories... well, those number in the hundreds. If you haven't heard them, it's only because you haven't asked. So, we are asking and we are filming videos of your stories during regional and national events. If you'd like, we invite you to capture your own video as well, and send it in to the corporate office.
Don't have a WithIt story? Get active. Mentor, teach, lead a team to a remarkable contribution. The results, for you, can be life-changing.
Not a storyteller? We'll work on that. Meanwhile, there are many ways you can talk without speaking: share a quick email to business associates and friends who might benefit from leadership support or skills development. Add "Member, WithIt - women's leadership development" to your email signature. And, wear your WithIt pin - you'll be surprised how many people will engage you in conversation via that tiny bit of jewelry.
We are asking you to become an advocate for WithIt, just as WithIt advocates for you. Extend a hand to others. Tell your story. In doing so, you'll impact not only your own life and business, but the lives and businesses of many around you.
Now, let's GROW.

Tech Symposium a Success
WithIt's technology educational symposium exceeded expectations by all measurements and further solidified WithIt's role as a leading education resource for the home furnishings industry. More than 100 professionals attended the event, which offered timely and topical information about social media marketing and delivered put-in-play tips about how to leverage new technology. The symposium committee, headed by Vice President Jana Phipps, is developing a post-event video webinar, which will be available for a limited time in approximately three weeks. Check the WithIt Web for more information. Fast Facts from the event and additional reading:* Social media marketing is best performed by a mix of professionals that includes company employees and outside vendors with proven social media successes. * Know your marketing objectives before you launch a social media campaign, and be prepared to change your strategy as measurement metrics mandate. * Technology changes everyday, so try new tools, experiment, fail and try again. "It's the right idea, not the big idea," according to Maggie Fox, CEO of Social Media Group. Not every tool--Twitter, Facebook, e-mail marketing, mobile marketing--will suit every brand. 100 Women to Watch
Do you know an extraordinary female leader?
In 2010, WithIt will underscore its position as the home and furnishings industries' foremost leadership development network by publishing an annual list of Women To Watch. The list will recognize and direct national attention to female leaders who are making a difference in all product categories and industry segments.
Honorees will be selected for their accomplishments and leadership potential, and will be announced in conjunction with the organization's annual WOW awards.
The initiative, spearheaded by WithIt President Stephanie Lowder and Second Vice President Mary Leigh Wallace, is also designed to increase awareness of WithIt, develop new channels for the organization's message, maximize value from current assets and build stakeholder value.
Information about the national Call for Nominations effort is forthcoming. Members and supporters are encouraged to submit names of accomplished women in any and all segments of the greater home and furnishings marketplace.
