SIANG RIVER, SON OF BRAHMA NOV 19-DEC 1

Dear All,
Its that time of the year, when half the year has passed us by, in a flurry of hurry. Harried by the mayhem of our daily lives, the year end would arrive in a flash, and that long cherished hope of breathing fresh mountain air might have to wait another year.  Our Audens Col trip filled up real quick, but we have launched another departure for those who missed out.
So, take a deep breath, and get some time out for yourself, to take in some fresh mountain air. We have options ranging for every level of challenge you might seek. And we have some great climbing options coming up for in 2012, so keep an eye out for them.
As most of our Ladakh season is about to close, we have very few spots remaining on the Zanskar and Stok departures, so if you want to jump aboard in a hurry, yes, do hurry!  Travel Safe.

The ascent of this 6153m mountain is a great way for those looking at altitude gain, and feel that cold wind in the face standing at 20,000 feet above sea level. The climb itself is not technically demanding, and on days with good weather conditions, involves going up a steep rocky scree slope and walking

over sharp rocky ridge to reach the snowy summit. Most of the snow on the mountain melts away by mid July and we have rarely used crampons on our August departures. However with weather becoming more & more unpredictable one cannot rule out a possibility of dealing with some unexpected snow & ice on the mountain.

Audens Col, Oct 2011
First crossed by J.B Auden in 1940, very little is known about this trek connecting the pilgrim centres of Gangotri and the valley of the bhilangana, one of the most scenic walks in Garhwal.  The Col straddles the connecting ridge of Gangotri III (6577m) and Jogin I (6465 m),  as Towards the Colwe approach the Col from Rudugaira glacier and descend through the ice fall and crevassed Khatling glacier before walking down the Bhilangana valley on our exit, one of the prettiest walks in the Garhwal Himalaya. Only for experienced trekkers.

SAHASRATAL TREK OCT 14-27

The Sahastratal group of lakes lie at an average altitude of 15000 ft in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. These lakes are considered holy by the local people who take an annual pilgrimage carrying the "Doli" (Deity) on their shoulders.Otherwise, it remains an extremely remote area not frequently visited, trekkers included. The route climbs up through the only village on the way, Sila, passing through high pastures where depending on the season, one meets only goatherds and Gujjars. The trail winds its way through massive open meadows littered with wild daffodils and climbs over a 13200 ft pass (Kyarki khal) for a brilliant view of all the mountain ranges in the area from Bandarpunch and Kala Nag to Jaonli. The Annapurnas rise in the heart of the Himalayas. They may not be the tallest, but they form the central core of the great Himalayan arc, towering in the very middle of the 2550km chain that is the planet's highest range. Annapurna region is a microcosm of Himalayas, and one that is easily accessible. Unlike many other Himalayan ranges, the 55km range is entirely within Nepal and with a relatively easy trail that goes all around it, called the Annapurna Circuit. The Annapurna Sanctuary trek we do takes us right in the midst of Annapurna mountains.

This gorge of the Zanskar therefore, remains un-trekkable during the summer when the snow melt sends the river raging, but forms a corridor of ice in winter which serves as the only way, albeit dangerous, out of the Zanskar valley.

Zanskar - a remote valley in Ladakh is the fabled "Land of White Copper" -  a land that freezes in the winter, is cut off, but is incredibly scenic, the land of the snow leopard and the ibex, black wolves and the rare Himalayan  blue poppy, and of spirits and monks. At an average altitude of over 13,000 ft, the strange aspect of this valley is that it has no entrance. The two rivers that flow in it meet to carve a gorge so long and deep that one cannot travel down it to enter or exit the region. The only way out is crossing the Zanskar range of mountains, through high passes that are closed eight months in a year.
