Gauchar Camp Day 2
Aquaterra Adventures, Winter Trips
Dear Adventurer,

As winter closes in, few options remain for the adrenaline seeker.  As higher altitude treks and hikes wait for spring, there are still a few exciting outdoor options available.

Few trips match the extreme non stop action that the Above Karnprayag Upper Alaknanda trip provides. The trip starts from our base on the Ganges river near the pilgrim town of Rishikesh, and launches from the town of Chamoli river to end at Rudraprayag, descending 70 kms of a classic river run negotiating over 85 Class 3+/4 rapids!! One of the most technical  raft trips in Uttarakhand, this thrill-a-minute trip makes for a great way to end the year.

Camp Silver Sands is also open through the year end festivities. Camp Silver Sands, Ganga River If you are looking for a quiet getaway, with short hikes, learning how to paddle a kayak, or do some short raft trips, or simply laze at Camp, this is one of the premier outdoor options at this time of year.

We hope to see you under the stars this winter.

Sincerely,
Fay Singh

UPPER ALAKNANDA DEC 25-30, 2010
Kakar Phali, above Rudraprayag
A scenic drive of 165 kms (6hrs) hours takes us past the town of Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Nandprayag, situated on holy confluences which later form India's holiest river, the Ganga. We reach Kaldubagarh, situated above the Alaknanda, on the road to India's holiest shrines for the Hindus, Badrinath. Enroute, we pass Rudraprayag, best known for the infamous man-eating leopard shot down by Jim Corbett in 1932 in its forests. One of the most exciting the river runs in this part of the Himalaya, we take you through thick forests and deep gorges and cascading whitewater, Foaming rapids, sandy beaches and starry nights make this a truly memorable outdoor trip.
The trip starts from our base on the Ganges river near the pilgrim town of Rishikesh, and launches from the town of Chamoli river to end at Rudraprayag, descending 70 kms of a classic river run negotiating over 85 Class 3+/4 rapids, including Hillary Fall, where Sir Edmund Hillary's Ocean to Sky expedition halted, unable to go any further.

Maha Kali - Sarda Feb 11-19, 2011Beach Camp near Pancheshwar
The Kali river forms the international border between India and Nepal in its upper reaches. A self-contained river journey down this river is one of the prime options in this part of the Himalaya. The river flows past terraced farms of Kumaoni and Nepali villages, fresh water streams, sandy beaches, thick tropical jungles, plantations as we travel downstream through the terai belt negotiating exciting white water.   With the Mahseer making it an angler's delight, the lack of road access makes it a complete wilderness journey. After the first few days of serene float past its confluence with the Saryu at Pancheshwar (also a famous fishing spot) with the occasional big rapid, the Kali makes its final descent to the plains in the last day on river, beginning with the mighty Chooka rapid. Flowing past the terai hills after densely forested hillsides, this trip is an outdoor wilderness experience in a league of its own.

Karnali - Bardia Feb 25-Mar 09
Jungle walk inside the Bardia Park
Beginning with a visit to the famous Bardia National Park, and then journeying for eight days and 140 kilometers without seeing a single sign of the modern world,  makes this trip Nepal's finest multi day river rafting. The rapids earlier on are comparatively easy, but as you enter the main canyon, be prepared for a thrill-a-minute adventure!

There is a rapid waiting for you every corner. The Karnali's headwaters come
off of Mount Kailas in Tibet, the center of the universe for both Buddhist and Hindu
religions, and then slice through the Himalayas in a series of magnificent and isolated  gorges and forests. From easy-going class 3 to continuous and powerful Class 4+/5
rapids, there are miles of beautiful scenery, pristine beaches, and deep gorges.
The Grand Canyon of the Colorado, Apr 18-May 5, 2011Camp in Canyon
It is one of the most famous adventures on the planet.... And with good reason.  Journeying for 14 days and 226 miles down the Colorado river is the smallest part of this trip. We get a chance to explore the Grand Canyon from within, with its scenic side hikes and spectacular waterfalls. You'll camp on expansive sandy beaches retracing the expedition of Major John Wesley Powell in 1867 and visit ancient Indian ruins.
