We saved the best for last, ending the year with the ultimate rafting challenge on planet earth! |

Dear Adventure Traveler,
As 2009 draws to a close, we look back at a year with relief, at being able to sustain our expeditions, in an environment of uncertainty, as we look forward to 2010, with new plans, trips and journeys for our valued travellers. Continuing to offer, what is possibly, the most varied range of Himalayan river expeditions on offer, we have indeed saved the best for last, with 2 departures on the Siang (Upper Brahmaputra) river, and a last and final descent of the Subansari river.
All 3 expeditions are guaranteed departures, in India's remotest corner, and are our signature trips. Being responsible for opening up the region for expedition travel in 2002, and having sustained it year after year, we end 2009 with 3 expeditions that are 2 of the top river expeditions in the world today.
If you look at a big volume river and measured a person's blood pressure, you'd probably find out why the lure of the river had brought so many adventurers together. Few activities require one to process so much data, continuously and quickly, with constant recalibration, as needed while descending the mighty Siang.
Journeying through India's tribal north east, pristine rainforest, and fascinating culture, add to the excitement of running the Brahmaputra, with the 4th largest run-off on planet earth. And ofcourse, a first and last opportunity to run some fluffy Class 3 on the Subansari river, before the dam at its base threatens to end one of the nicer river trips in India.
You will travel with the best hands in the business, with career guides, for whom sharing these journeys with you, is not a job, but a way of life. You are not on a 'flash in the pan' one-off trip, instead you embark upon one of a journey unmatched in scale, safety, and experience.
We hope to see you braving India's north east this year!
Happy Paddling!
Warmly,
Vaibhav Kala |
The Siang / Upper Brahmaputra Descent : Nov 28-Dec 10 & Dec 10-22, 2009 |
|
Be an expedition member on one of the top rafting expeditions in the world ! And, it really does not get bigger than this.
The most exciting way to run the Upper Brahmaputra's (or Siang as its known in Arunachal Pradesh) legendary Ningguing and Marmong gorges, is on a 07-day river trip that we offer in Nov-Dec each year, at the primo time of year for this remote corner of India. We welcome first timers too, as this provides a great insight into the river valley and the tribal way of life.
After your day-one plunge through a ten-mile stretch negotiating rapids like "Ningguing' and 'Pulsating Palsi", you'll be ready to navigate down the Ningguing and Marmong gorges. You will raft encounter the 'Roaring Rikor" and "Zebra Rock", camp on pristine beaches at night, raft down "Moing Madness" and enjoy a wonderful day of rest, relaxation, reading and savouring this special corner of India. Rated as one of the Top Ten Adventures by OUTSIDE magazine and featured by Paddler Magazine on a cover story this legendary river has seen some off the most fascinating exploration in the last century. Watch a brief preview of this river on a film made on our 2002 expedition, now showing on Adventure One Channel, run by National Geographic.
Subansari River, THE LAST DESCENT Dec 21, 2009 - Jan 2, 2010 |
|
Possibly the last descent of this beautiful river, coming under a big dam by 2010, the river has no road artery linking it on either side of the Great Himalayan Range spanning about 150 km. Very difficult terrain with vertical rock faces with only very sparse inhabitation in the belt has kept and continue to keep the upper reaches of this challenging river isolated. This beckoning river is challenging and demanding. Set in a scenic breathtaking environment astride the Eastern Himalayas with its diverse warm-hearted hill people with their unique traditions and customs spread over a millennia, with the inevitable change encroaching upon them rapidly, certainly a great way to ring in the new year. Sadly, the Subansari will be lost to us forever, so come get yourself a piece for posterity.
