Happenings from Mint Creek Farm

Welcome to May's issue of our Mint Creek Farm's newsletter. Spring is at its climax here which means 90 degree weather one day and in the 50's and rainy the next. Thankfully no tornadoes have come visiting....yet.

We would love for you all to come out on Saturday, June 25 for our monthly on farm event. See Julie's itinerary below for details.

One of the things that perk up in the spring here is the lawnmower. Read about our micro grazing in "Lamb mowers versus Lawnmowers".

Juxtaposed to this micro grazing was an opportunity we recently had to move the bulk of our entire flock of about 800 sheep to another organic field 10 miles down the road. Please read about this experience in the story "Two For The Road"  the wonders of remote grazing.

Finally we come to the subject of economics. Not to bore you with this subject which too much is already written about but we need to have a way to transform our world for the better and it will involve economics. With lots of questionable things going on with currencies and evaluations, interest rates etc. I thought it timely to offer a way for people to invest in Mint Creek Farm. We have been working diligently to find a better way of sustainable agriculture and wish to expand our contributions in this regard. This will take additional working capital investment by others like you and can be offered a reasonable rate of return backed by sound investment in land, livestock and food producing resources. Please read about this in "The Money Behind The Farm". Hope to see you all soon!

The Lowest Carbon Hoof-print

by Harry Carr

My little lamb mowers are self propelled with a fertilizer attachment.

They eat grass not gas, run quietly with an occasional hungry bleat

To get them to mow you do not have to ride or push them.

So fun to watch the young children in town come and try to pet them,

natural wariness however keeps them just beyond those short arms reach.

At season's end after many days of downing grassy lawns,

those little lambs have grown to become sheep.

Some will be retained and bred to have their very own,

while others harvested will grace our table as we weep.
