What is Your Flu I.Q.

FluIt's that time of year, the flu season is here again. It can be difficult to tell the difference between the flu and the common cold. Your primary care physician can give you a test within the first few days of your illness to determine whether or not you have the flu, but it is important to know the signs and symptoms of each.

Pediatric Primary Care Center: Patient Profile

For parents of special needs children, the child's pediatrician can be a lifeline as they work with a long list of specialists to help their child physically, emotionally and developmentally.

For Danna Almuhtady and Rami Abumasmah - both physicians from Jordan who came to the United States so Rami could begin an internal medicine residency at Memorial Hospital - that lifeline is Nisrine Atieh, MD, with the hospital's Pediatric Primary Care Center.

Ask the Expert:

Do I have to have surgery for a torn rotator cuff?

Michel Arcand, MD

(View Bio)

The simple answer is no. To explain the answer you need to understand the rotator cuff and its function. The rotator cuff is a flat tendon that wraps around the humeral head, the ball in the shoulder joint. This tendon and its muscles make the humeral head rotate in its socket. Weakness in this tendon and its muscles can cause pain and inability to use the arm.
