Hampton Roads Inaugural Official Power Breakfast
and Fly-In Luncheon
"Your Potential. Our Passion. We help keep your Promises."

Held Friday, December 5, 2008 at VMASC, Suffolk
"Work as a Region or Lose to Us"

The Partnership's inaugural elected officials' breakfast and fly-in luncheon were very successful and brought a valid message to Hampton Roads from the Chairman of the Hampton Roads Center for Civic Engagement, Jim Oliver, and former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot:  regions not unified compete at a disadvantage with regions like Charlotte who have "bought in" to the regional concept.

Important information including video of the presentations can be found here (click on links below):

Intro by Dana Dickens (app. 4 mins)

Richard Vinroot - "Work as a Region or Lose to Us," Part 1, Part 2 (app. 10 mins each)

Remarks by Jim Oliver - "Big Issues Transcend Boundaries" (app. 4 mins)

Regional Cooperation Video - (app. 7 mins)

"Dollar earned" Report - When $1.00 of new payroll is generated in a Hampton Roads community, how much of that money stays in that city or county or ends up in another city and county?  Dr. James V. Koch, Board of Visitors Professor of Economics and President Emeritus of Old Dominion University has the answer.

The survey feedback, including suggestions, will be used to move the Regional Discussion forward into action. (Responses received: 24%-Breakfast, 44%-Lunch)

And, thank you to the 14 people who volunteered to serve as Regional Stewards.
Helping turn Hampton Roads, "America's FIRST Region" into "America's BEST Region."  Thank You.

Sincerely,
