DID YOU KNOW....
How to be better ranked on search engines? How to draw more traffic to your blog/site?
This is a very popular question and in short it takes time to build blog popularity and consistency.
- Make sure to post regularly. It may not be practical to post every day, but if you could that would be great.
- Keep your posts relevant and of good quality. A little chit chat is good but should be minimal.
- Join social networking groups and be sure to post there often and include your blog/site address in your signature. People will begin to know who you are and what kind of work you do. For demonstrators, this may be SUDSOL or Splitcoaststampers. For all, it may be Facebook or MySpace or Meetup or other Yahoo/MSN groups as well.
- Run contests but have a worthy prize. Some use Blog Candy but you can also do Challenges or other forms of a Contest.
- Create something that's "you" and something you do often. Such as Technique Tuesday. Every Tuesday you MUST post a new technique or Tutorial. People will then want to check your blog for the new tutorial!
- Something special. This is a great time of year and many are doing some type of "Christmas Countdown" or 12 Days of Christmas where you can post daily for 12 days or you can send a special newsletter for those who subscribe to your newsletter. Others are running specials and personal promotions.
- Entice visitors to comment. Comments are a form of traffic as well - it's not just about the post.
- If you are a typepad user, be sure to enter Keywords in the Keywords area of the Compose a Post screen. If you don't see it, click Customize Display and then check it off from the list.

| A Blogger Tip
How to Simulate "Pages"
Again, this is just a work-around. Blogger does not have a feature called "pages." Okay, now for the "trick". For example, if you wanted an area for Kits you sell or Classes To Go.
In Blogger, you would post about the kit and give it a category such as "Classes to Go". This would then be a category in your main category list. Use "**Classes to Go **" to keep it first on the list.
However, in addition, I would create Links List (as a gadget) and name it CLASSES TO GO and then create a link to each "Classes to Go" post you create.
To create a Links List:
- Login to Blogger.
- From the Dashboard, click on Layout.
- Click or go to Page Elements if you are not there by default.
- Click on Add a Gadget (used to be Add a Page Element).
- From the list, scroll and choose the Link List.
- From the Configure Link LIst window that now appears:
- Add a Title for your list, such as "Classes To Go".
- Leave blank the "number of links to show in the list".
- You may want to choose a Sort Order or leave "Don't Sort".
- New Site URL: this is the URL or actual address of the site, such as http://www.blogsbyheather.com/ClassesToGo-November-2008.html.
- New Site Name: This is the textual respresentation that will show in the sidebar, such as "November 2008". So when a user clicks the Site Name, they will be directed to the Site URL.
- Click ADD LINK button.
- To add another, the only 2 fields you need to enter is "New Site URL" and "New Site Name". Then click ADD Link button.
- Continue until you have created the list. As you are building the list you will see it in the bottom of the Configuration window.
- When you are finished, click SAVE.
Arrange in sidebar:
- It is now added to your sidebar at the top.
- Simply drag and drop it where you would like it to be in the sidebar.
- click the SAVE button.

A Typepad Tip
Hiding Pages and Creating a Links List to Your Pages Separately
This tutorial would be for those who say have many uses for "Pages".
- Maybe you want to hide a "thank you for your order" page but want other pages accessible to your vistors - such as "Class Kits For Sale" or "Tutorials".
- You would create them all as pages, but then create two separate Links Lists to link to each of the sets separately. You would create a Class Kits For Sale Links list and link to all your pages that pertain to your kits for sale.
- You would then create another list for Tutorials and link to those pages that you created for different tutorials or techniques.
Remove "Pages" from your sidebar
First, remove the list of Pages from your sidebar by going to Weblogs > Design > Select Content, and deselecting the Pages list. Or if you have the new version of Typepad, Weblogs > Design > Content and then in the layout design, remove the element called "Pages". This will allow you to create a Page that doesn't show on your sidebar.
Creating a new Links Typelist
- Go to Typelists (green tab). Then click on the "Create a New TypeList" (in white text on the green bar), and then select "Link" from the dropdown menu as the "type" of list you want.
- Give a name to the TypeList (such as "Class Kits For Sale") and click on the "Create New List" button.
Then, set up a link like this: Link Title: Happy Holiday Class Kit Link URL: http://your ypepad address/your page here.html
- You can add as many links as you would like.
For example:
Title: Gift Registry
Link URL:
http://heatherporto.typepad.com/hand_stamped_by_heather/gift-registry.html
Publish the new Links List and Show On Your Blog
- Click the Publish Tab.
- Choose which weblog you want to add it to, choose your main weblog (with a check) and click the SAVE button.
- Then, right from that screen, choose Conent in the new version of Typepad. You can then drag and drop the new list where you want it in the sidebar (it by default will be in the left column). Save Changes.
If using an older version of typepad, click on Select Content, go the the Typelists area and put a check next to the newly created typelist, such as Class Kits For Sale in this example. Save Changes. Then go to Order, and drag and drop where you want it on your sidebar. Save Changes.
