Austin's population is expected to swell by more than 6,000 people between July and August, according to a new U.S. Census Bureau analysis.

The data compiled by Austin Business Journal affiliate Business First showed the city growing from about 1.784 million people to about 1.79 million. The newspaper analyzed populations in 942 U.S. metropolitan and micropolitan areas and projected growth using a computer program.

New York City will remain the most populous metropolitan area in America with an estimated population of 18.97 million as of July 1. It is followed by Los Angeles (12.89 million), Chicago (9.51 million), Dallas-Fort Worth (6.53 million) and Houston (6.12 million).

Sagra hosts Free Summer Feast

Popular Italian spot Sagra had a rough spring. A kitchen fire in early April forced the rustic Italian enoteca and trattoria at 1610 San Antonio Street to close for a few weeks. They quietly reopened a while back, but Sagra chef Gabriel Pellegrini wants to officially celebrate their return by throwing a summer-inspired family-style feast.

On Wednesday, July 13, a complimentary family-style dinner will be offered to guests on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number of VIP tables available for reservations. Keep an eye on Sagra's social media pages for contests to win spots at these tables. Guests will also be treated to $4 wine specials and specialty cocktails crafted for the occasion by Sagra's resident mixologists.

The menu, which will be served from 4pm (until it runs out) will feature a pig roast stuffed with fresh fennel, herbs and sausage, and a vegetable tiella layered with fresh summer veggies (straight from their own greenhouse) layered and baked with tomato sauce.

Whether you're a Sagra loyalist or even if you've never been to this tucked away neighborhood gem, you might seize this opportunity to take in what promises to be one hell of a tasty feast, plus with the family style set-up, you'll likely make some new friends.

Austinites plan to open package-free grocery this fall

From www.austin360.com

A group of Austinites is hoping to open a zero-waste grocery store in East Austin this fall that, unlike traditional stores, doesn't sell food in disposable packaging.

Customers at In.gredients will be asked to bring in their own containers or use the store's reusable ones to buy items shipped in bulk instead of pre-packaged in boxes, bags or plastic.

In.gredients has started getting the word out about the project through its website, Twitter account and Facebook page.

Marketing director Brian Nunnery says that in order to open store as planned in October, they need to meet several fundraising goals before then. They have started taking contributions through Indie GoGo, but will be hosting other fundraising events later in the year.
