Personal Note from Phil Bartos

Dear Friend,

No man lives alone with prostate cancer.  Our families and friends take the journey with us at every step from diagnosis through recovery.

Fortunately, many of us who encounter this disease soon find our way to the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Our families and friends quickly learn to call on the APCF staff for information, for a touch of encouragement at a tough moment, for a compassionate, impartial and knowledgeable discussion of treatments and choices.

The Foundation staff and volunteers have been a steady source of support, good-hearted humor and much more for my family and friends.  They have helped me manage so many of the challenges that prostate cancer brings to a family.

As Janet and I approach Thanksgiving, along with our six children and eleven grandchildren, we prepare to give thanks for so much and especially this year, for the welcome presence in our lives of the APCF.  I am particularly grateful for the positive attitude that the Foundation brings to my family.  I know I share that gratitude with other survivors.

This Thanksgiving season, I encourage men--and their families and friends--who are dealing with prostate cancer, to reflect on the support that APCF offers to all of us and to our communities.  And in that moment, to decide to help sustain the continued service of the APCF with a donation as generous as the gift we all receive from the Foundation.

My family and I will do our part. I hope you will join us.

Thank you, APCF team, for your warm embrace and loving care.

Sincerely,

 bartos sig

Prostate Cancer Workgroup

We hope you will attend the ACC/APCF Prostate Cancer Workgroup meeting Tuesday, December 13, at 11:15 A.M., immediately following the Arkansas Cancer Coalition quarterly meeting at the American Cancer Society building, 901 N. University, scheduled to take place from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

The 2011 Prostate Cancer Workgroup will focus on the "D" recommendation for prostate cancer screening by the United States Preventive Services Task Force. This is your chance to learn about the Task Force, randomized trials and reasons for the debate. You'll be able to ask questions, express your views and contribute to community strategy for prostate cancer control statewide.

Participants will include prostate cancer survivors, community health groups, public health representatives, health and human service agencies, donors and decision-makers from medicine, nursing and academia--all stakeholders in prostate cancer prevention and control. If you know of others who might be interested, please forward this newsletter to them.

If you RSVP to 501-748-1249 or info@arprostatecancer.org , we will order a sandwich for you.
