Greetings!
The APCF is ready to tackle 2011! So far, the APCF has successfully organized two prostate cancer education and screening events-you can read more about the event at the Capitol Building below-and many more are scheduled. Check the APCF's website for upcoming screenings in your area.
The APCF is also traveling abroad ... just to Florida, though. The Foundation and selected volunteers have been invited to participate in the Department of Defense IMPaCT conference from March 9-12. You can read more about the Foundation's involvement below.
Finally, the APCF staff would like to introduce the newest team member, Marita Pilcher, LCSW, who will be leading the Peer Network Northwest meetings in Springdale.
Best wishes,

APCF's FREE SCREENING AT STATE CAPITOL
| | |
Foundation Brings its Services to the Capitol During Legislative Session
The APCF offered free prostate cancer education and screening on February 8, but there was one catch ... you had to come to the front steps of the Capitol building to get it done. The Foundation's mobile screening unit was parked in front of the Capitol.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., more than 100 men and women stopped by, received prostate cancer literature and learned more about risks and preventive measures. 68 men were screened and 5 were directed for follow-up consultation with a physician because of suspicious results.
The screening provided a valuable opportunity for the Foundation to showcase its services and programs to legislators and Arkansas residents. The APCF staff would like to extend a special thank you to Amanda Payne, RN, and Karen Boatright, RN, who volunteered their time to assist with the event.

The APCF Goes to Florida
The APCF staff and consumer reviewers Raul Blasini, R.D. Saenz, Ed Moore and Rep. Fred Allen were invited to the IMPaCT Conference in Orlando, Florida, from March 9-12. The IMPaCT Conference is sponsored by the Department of Defense and highlights the progress made by the Prostate Cancer Research Project-funded programs. The event also exhibits the "strong collaboration between the research community and prostate cancer survivors and advocates." The APCF was asked to participate with a poster presentation, which will be displayed for all attendees.

2010: A YEAR IN REVIEW
| | |
2010 was an extremely busy year for the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation. Because of your involvement, the Foundation made significant impacts in the lives of men and women in Arkansas. Here is a brief review of some of the past year's accomplishments:
- The APCF screened more than 3,500 men and organized 52 events in 39 counties and 43 cities. Nearly 10% of men screened had suspicious results and were recommended to follow-up with an urologist.
- The APCF had more than 200 volunteers provide 600-plus hours of services. Volunteers included phlebotomists, physicians and others. This incredible amount of time and energy is the backbone of the Foundation's successes.
- 57 physicians and 78 other healthcare professionals participated in the APCF's Continuing Medical Education (CME) presentation, When to Refer.
- The Foundation distributed more than 26,000 brochures across the state. The APCF also sent 399 Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Walsh and 100 Questions & Answers to newly diagnosed men and their families.
- The APCF has fantastic support from its corporate sponsors. Baptist Health, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, Landers Toyota and Iberia Bank's donations total nearly $325,000. If you have a chance, please thank these organizations for the wonderful work they do to help the Foundation's mission.
