I'm back from sailing, the world was fine without me. We think we are so important, we just have to do things, and when we leave we find the world gets along without us. What's the lesson?

Our sailing trip was great for many reasons: we were on a boat; cruising our favorite harbors; enjoying good food; good weather. But, the key reason was good friends. We have traveled for 10 years with this same couple, be it sailing or skiing every year. People always make the difference. Always be a welcome addition to any group.

Cameron was in charge last week. He did things differently than I may have, but, it's fine. In some ways better. Maybe I can learn from him. Maybe? No, for sure I can learn from Cameron.

Pick out a good book at Shipp's Locker bookstore — one that you can enjoy and learn from. It's time to read for fun, relaxation, and education on your vacation. Get a good book. Enjoy.

We have had a technical problem with our emails. If you have already signed up for the goals seminar please do so again. I am afraid we are missing people and do not want to miss anyone who wants to participate. Thanks!

We are doing the GOALS teleseminar again at the end of the month. It's perfect for getting organized and on track for the rest of the year. Join in, you'll be glad you did. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain .

LAST CHANCE to sign up now for the free GOALS teleseminar on July 27, 2010 AT 9 AM EDT or July 28, 2010 AT 3:00 PM EDT.

Who should join the teleseminar? Anyone who wants a better grip on his goals, objectives, and the way he does things.

  • Want your own goals?
  • Want a track to run on?
  • Want to accomplish your goals?

Captain Cameron

Thanks for supporting me last week. Subscribers are up and sales are up. Is Pop holding us back? It sure is fun to work hard and do new things. When you do it you realize it's not as hard as it appears. Just do it!

no_balloonNo, I am not going to take the captain's hat off. I am a captain just like you. Kids are born knowing we are captain. It's the adults that seem to forget. Not me.

TEAMWORK

Sure, many things you can do alone.

Do you do things alone because you can do it better, faster, and more accurately than others?

Teamwork wins. Be part of a team, enjoy the team, and see what a team can accomplish. In the end, a team can accomplish a lot more than one person doing it alone.

We were cruising in a sailboat for a week. We were a team. While we changed roles, we each did what we did best. Me, I was setting the sails, raising and lowering them with the winches. I set the sail positions based on the direction the captain was going and changed them as needed.

The boat worked best with a team. While one person, when necessary, could have done it all, as a team it was easier and the boat performed better. This is no different than life itself. Focus on what you do best and allow others to do what they do best. Together, you will accomplish more.

Teams work. Teams provide wonderful lasting relationships. Accept the others for their unique talents as they accept you for yours. Learn their talents and broaden your abilities. Watch each team member and see how they perform and how you can learn from them. A team member will assist you and watch you practice so that you can learn.

Teams win. In racing, as in life, a well trained team working together wins. Years ago I had a race team on my sailboat. By the second season we worked like a fine Swiss watch. Each knew his role and how it interacted with the others. We all just knew, and we all did our job. The boat went faster, and we won. We won not only the race, but we won in that we all enjoyed the whole process as well as one another.

Sure, team members have egos and have bad days. We all do. Accept them and move on realizing teams work.

Would you rather do it alone? Sometimes we all do. But, in the end, working with a team wins, is more fun, and you learn more.

Join a team. Work with and accept a team. You will see the value and the fun of it all. Teams get things done faster and better than you doing them alone. It is no wonder that teams win.

The wonder is why we are not on teams. Going it alone when you can be with a team is to do it the hard, slow, inefficient way. Plus, in the end, it is not as good.

Join a team. Be a team player. Try it. You’ll surprise yourself.
