U.S. Math Scores Hit a Wall

Wall Street Journal, Education, June 2009, By ROBERT TOMSHO

"Fewer than four of 10 fourth- and eighth-graders are proficient in mathematics, according to a highly regarded federal test given in early 2009, adding to recent evidence that the U.S. drive to become more economically competitive by overhauling public education may be falling short.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress -- often called the "nation's report card" -- found fourth-graders had made no learning gains since the last time the NAEP math test was given, in 2007. Previously, fourth-graders had made scoring gains on every NAEP math test given since 1990. Significant scoring gaps between white students and their Hispanic and African-American peers also haven't changed much in recent years, the test results showed.

Policy makers and business leaders long have complained that too many U.S. students graduate without the math skills necessary to compete in an international economy that increasingly revolves around technology.

Earlier this year, a report by ACT, the testing service, found that only about 42% of the U.S. high-school graduates it tested were ready for college-level math. The most recent results from the SAT college-entrance exam also showed no improvement in math.

In a statement, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan called the NAEP results "unacceptable," and said they underscore the need for "reforms that will accelerate student achievement." While not focused specifically on math, the Obama administration's education strategy calls for adopting tougher measures, such as opening more charter schools and linking teacher pay to performance."

LGS HAS AN ANSWER:

OH MY GOODNESS! Now here is something we know can be a victory for any child or adult that follows this program, or your money back!  LGS has successfully turned the future of math for countless children in public and home school, as well as it working for teens and adults!  ThisRRS 4 program has been on the market for the last seven years and has proved itself time and time again. The math facts program I speak about is called the Rapid Recall System.  This innovative program has the sound basics of all good math instructional curriculums, plus much more. It includes neuro-based techniques that allow new pathways in the brain to be created. Its spiraling format consists of daily "input" resulting in long-term rapid recall of all math facts.  Math facts are the building blocks to all levels of math.  Without integrated math skills set firmly in place, a person cannot function easily in the world of math, which should be a fun skill, rather than one that creates fear and anxiety.

The secret to this program is the simplicity in integrating it into a home or school program. (For educators, please go to this website for scientific data from our pilot programs done in schools.)

This program takes less than 10 minutes a day. The real secret is its "perfect" practice, because the program works from an "input" concept instead of "output". You have two visual input sessions (make them fun) each day for one minute each. Then there are two auditory input sessions for two minutes each. Now they have seen, heard, said and written math involving all senses. To round out the program, they do a practice drill that is done as fast as they can to check speed and accuracy. Wow! What a confidence booster! In addition, there's no anxiety as in other math facts programs. There are all kinds of positive reinforcement as the student begins to experience success, and as they say, "Success breeds more success."

Here is one mom's note to us:

"My daughter had a very difficult time 'getting' her math facts. We tried a lot of different approaches but nothing worked. Still searching, we tried the Rapid Recall System. Somehow, she began to know her facts before we even got to them in the program! I am so impressed and thankful for Rapid Recall. I recommend it to everyone with elementary students!"  S. Ensure Your Pre-school Child

Is Totally Ready For School

The Early Learning Foundation program was created to not only prepare your child academically to succeed in school, but to make sure developmentally they are functioning on a cognitive, auditory, visual and tactile stage of maturity, so they can receive, comprehend, store and recall information as needed.

There are reasons we are seeing so many children who have the intellectual capacity to succeed, but mysteriously struggle with school. The Early Learning system addresses those issues in a fun and delightful way, so that children who have been exposed to the program literally beg to do it with you.  My own grandson is always eager to do his "ELF". He told his mom, "My school program (ELF) made me really smart and I know more things.... I really like it... and wish we could do it more!"

P.S. One of the secrets with the Early Learning System (ELF) is that you always have very short sessions and leave them wanting more.  They always look forward to it, because they always experience success!
