Success Story of the Month:

"What a fantastic math facts system Rapid Recall System is!  In 18 years of teaching, (first-graders) I have tried many ways to teach math facts but this system was by far the easiest to implement and I had better results with this system than anything else I have tried - all in just 7 minutes a day!   Even my lower-level students flourished and were successful under this system. (3 students did 100% in 3 min. or under.)

Here are just a few of the results that made me sit up and take notice:

   Child #1 - Able to do all 70 problems in 2.5 minutes - 100%!

Child #2 - Unable to identify numbers at year start. At end of the year, he did better than all the top students in other first-grade classes.

My biggest success story in math!

Child #3 - Considered RTI, he was easily able to do math and was                        keeping up with the rest of the class.    T.Trussell, 1st Grade

ND Tip of the Month:

The most important concept you need to know when working with the neuro-educational methodology, is understanding the slight paradigm shift required in order to be successful.  With a neuro-educational program, whether you are using an at-home program or have had a professional evaluation and a program specifically written for your child, understanding the importance of INPUT is imperative. As we say, "INPUT IS KING."  It is through the input features of LGS neuro-educational programs, impacting the neuroplasticity of the brain, which results in creation of new masses of connections (a physiological response) and is born out in academic improvement. Most educational models are based on output.  Those programs are looking for memorization, absorption and integration. For some it works, but LGS knows from our research the output models are not the most effective way to integrate speed and accuracy, retention and recall of academic materials.  We know most of our student population has developmental gaps due to the fact that almost all of our infants are put in "seats" of one kind or another during their infancy. When an infant is upright in a sitting position, they don't have the opportunity to acquire the complete cadre of sensory input that maps the brain, organizes and establishes strong neuro-pathways that accommodate explosive neuro-communication between the brain and body.  There are three keys to input, used in the stimulation of an individual's auditory, visual, tactile, manual, language and mobility systems. Those keys, frequency, intensity and duration, are the solution to allowing low or non-functioning parts of the brain to gain function. Most of our children today are lacking in auditory function (which affects learning globally) and are functioning below grade level. All of these deficits can easily be remedied through INPUT!  All humans have a great capacity to cope and compensate, but that will only take you so far and eventually the weight of the coping and compensating affects individuals with excessive anxiety, rebellion, negative behavior, depression, and for many, poor life decisions.  The Neurodevelopmental Approach not only restores functional abilities, but self-esteem and capturing of one's confidence in achieving. It's all a part of developing into all of your God-given potential. Our neuro-educational programs take those literal "road blocks" out of the way and change the life experience in learning, coordination, and socialization for the better.  Another saying, "It's in the wiring!"  Please pass this information on to others. Learning issues, disabilities and struggles are not a life sentence.

Inspiration From Our Family to Yours:

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100 yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back. Every one of them. One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said,"This will make it better." All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together. Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know one thing. What matters most in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.

      CompreReadingCoverDetailed Reading Comprehension

Detailed Reading Comprehension (DRC) was designed by Jan Bedell, in cooperation with other neurodevelopmentalists of ICAN, to encourage attention to detail while reading. Detailed Reading Comprehension works on developing and improving the following:

1) Understanding that word combinations have very precise meanings
       2) Attention to detail
       3) Discrimination skills
       4) Knowledge of positional words ( under, over, in, above,
            below, etc.)
       5) Recognizing punctuation symbols (question mark,
           comma, exclamation mark, period, etc.)
       6) Processing skills
       7) Short-term memory skills
       8) Learning 60 sight words

DRC includes instructions, 3 colored Picture Response Cards, Viewer Page, Answer Keys, 60 Flash Cards, as well as printable pages on a disk that include 900 Detailed Reading Sentences, Detailed Reading Comprehension Questions and much more.

Even beginning readers can benefit from DRC. Only 22 words have to be learned in order to begin the exercise of reading for details to mark a response card correctly. After reading the sentence you have to remember: Which grammatical symbol do I make? Does it go above, below, or on the object? Was it the motorcycle or the fish bowl? What size am I to look for? Now what was the color to use to mark the card correctly? Oh my! There are lots of details to remember in DRC!
