Q: "My child has a good heart, but he is disruptive and out of control so much we really hate to take him anywhere. How would your program help him?"
A: You remind me of a child (we'll call him Sam) who came to our office about six years ago. Thank goodness his mother loved him, because he was a chore to tolerate. He, too, had his moments where he was the most caring and endearing little guy. Unfortunately, those were the exceptions, rather than the rule for him. To start, we evaluated him. We discovered he was extremely hyper-sensitive to all sorts of stimuli. He also had an intolerance to some food additives, which would set him off on a downward spiral of destructive behavior that was big enough to cause severe marital discord between his parents. There were other issues such as dominance and extreme problems with his tactile system and sound. All these problems were addressed with a specific program designed by a neuro-educational specialist. Within 5 weeks his mother contacted us and said he had slept all night and there seemed to be a leveling of his behavior. He wasn't screaming at his little sister because of her loud voice which, for the rest of the family, seemed to be within normal limits. He wasn't as angry on a daily basis and the number of emotional meltdowns during the course of the day were less frequent. Today, this little boy is now in junior high. He has an academic standing above average. He interacts well with his peers, adults and people in authority. Today, you'd never guess he was once an out of control tyrant. That's what our program does. It helps to get these children's brains organized, their super-sensitivities normalized and it increases their ability to process information, comprehend, and leave behind the chaotic behavior that resulted from gaps in his development.

When It's Time To Make Lemonade Out Of Lemons
Many times when we are thrown into a situation we never wanted nor expected to encounter, we respond in several ways. First, there is the slow identification of the problem. Then, some of us deny it; some of us get scared; some even get angry. Some will start digging into the resources, asking, searching out options. Some will sit and stew about it and blame their inaction on others or circumstances. In every case, no one wants to deal with it, at first. There comes a time that you must acknowledge the problem. Then, it becomes a conscious choice as to what you will do under those circumstances. So, it goes with our children who were dealt a hand that has garnered them a label of "Special Needs, Learning Disabled, Mentally Challenged, Down Syndrome, Developmentally Delayed, or even Gifted but Struggling."
It has been our experience at Little Giant Steps that many a dire prediction of a limited life and future does not mean it is true. Having learning issues is not a life sentence. There is much that can be done to change the course of a person's life. Every person has a special journey and destiny. We promote making the best of it and changing circumstances for the better. It is possible. It just takes time and commitment. Life has plenty of positive results if we decide to do the work.
This month I want to encourage you by giving you some choices. I'm giving you a video to watch. Let me know if the commitment of a parent is worth it.

IMPROVED READING
If you know your child is struggling with reading, there are many helpful tools to get them up to speed and at grade level. All of the programs we have developed have been designed to work on several levels (multi-sensory) to help improve processing, auditory, discrimination, verbal and tactility abilities.
VISUAL DISCRIMINATION GAME
Another product that will shift your child's abilities to encounter a game that is full of serious results. There are eleven levels to work through and each one holds challenges that have big pay-offs when they gain the ability to read and discriminate effectively.
