In Memory Of Tanda Trussell
Gone But Never Forgotten
One of our dear sisters in Christ and colleague has been called Home to join our Heavenly Father. Tanda was with us for a short time, yet she was a breath of fresh air, a real inspiration. She brought courage, commitment and a uniquely mature spirit into our office, lives, and hearts. She was an educator who "showed us the way" with our new school program. We gratefully acknowledge her gift to our new residence for mentally-challenged young women. She and her husband, Danny, were our first house parents. They were bringing the ND Approach and independent living skills to help build a better life to those residing there. May God bring peace and refuge to all who mourn her loss. Thank you, Lord, for gracing our lives with hers. |

LGS Success Story of the Month:
After 10 months on the Little Giant Steps program, this week all the letters my 10 year-old daughter had continually and consistently written REVERSED since kindergarten have flipped and now fluently come out on paper facing the right way. She doesn't even pause to ponder which way the letter "p" faces. I thank God and rejoice that her learning problems are falling by the way side as her brain changes and new neural pathways are built. This learning challenge seems to have vanished! I thought it would remain a challenge and she would always pause to ponder which way her letters and numbers go. Is this truly the difference in the ND Approach and learning to compensate? Our diligence and hard work on program is paying off. I am celebrating and wanted to share. We had a Little Giant Step today! C. K. in Perry, Georgia

ND Tip of the Month:
NOW IS THE TIME
How much time does it take to see your child reach his/her true level of functioning that will allow them to perform academically up to their grade level? How much time does it take to reduce the quirky or puzzling behaviors, or to see them become able to organize themselves enough to start and complete a project, a subject or a class without being distracted, confused, troubled or struggling? How much time will it be before they can keep track of things, or stop the emotional melt-downs, or begin to behave more their age?
How much time? If we are looking for the number of hours, days, weeks, or months, it will all depend on the developmental status of the child or individual and where we see their standing in the results on our neurodevelopmental profile and the placement on academic tests.
The typical length of time spent "on program" are from eight to twenty four months. Now, let's assume your child is 10 years old when they begin an ND program. You, as a parent, can spend two years (24 months) with your child on program or less. You work five days a week, twice a day with them to get the lower levels of their brain organized, getting their auditory and visual processing up to grade level and any dominance issues resolved as you are guided by the neuro-educational specialist. As you go through the time and activities, you see your child gaining the ability to retain information. They suddenly find a coordination within their body to execute tasks and skills that before had escaped them. Their impulsive or over-emotional behavior become part of their past, not their future. They are finally getting their math facts! Or perhaps you catch them reading when before they would rather have done a chore than read anything. By age 12 you see your child as happy, better adjusted to life and its circumstances and they have abilities you thought would be impossible for them. Their confidence levels are up and you see them entering into academic, competitive and social situations never before thought possible. By age 12 this child is functioning up to their capacity. They have approximately 70 or 80 years ahead of them in which they can fulfill their true destiny.
Is that a good trade off in terms of time? Trading two years or less of putting things in order so they can function with neuro-efficiency for the rest of their life, for seventy or eighty years. Is that enough time to make a better life? Do you believe your child's life improvement is worth your time? Many former students, as adults, report they are so grateful their parents were there to help them, because they remember the struggle and now it's not there. Now, they are free. |
Inspiration From Our Family to Yours:
There Are Angels Among Us
I was walking home from school on a cold winter day. Took a shortcut through the woods and lost my way. It was getting late and I was scared and alone, but then a kind old man took my hand and led me home. Now, Momma could not see him, oh but he was standing there and I knew in
my heart he was the answer to my prayers.
Oh, I believe there are angels among us sent down to us from somewhere up above. They come to you and me in our darkest hours to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with the light of love.
When life held trouble times and had me down on my knees, there's always been someone come along and comfort me, a kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand, a phone call from a friend just to say I understand. Ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road that someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope.
Oh, I believe there are angels among us sent down to us from somewhere up above. They come to you and to me in our darkest hours to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with the light of love. They wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places, to grace us with their mercy in our time of need.
Oh, I believe there are angels among us sent down to us from somewhere up above. They come to you and me in our darkest hours, to show us how to live, to teach us to give, to guide us with the light of love. To guide us with the light of love!
