Hedge and Fence Photo Update

Despite the wet June weather, restoration of the historic hedge and fence has continued with the planting of nearly 200 young hemlocks. Within a couple of years, the new plants will peek over the edge of the long picket fence and will be maintained at a height of about six feet.

The coordination of fence makers, installers, painters, and landscapers has been finely tuned. The last remaining pieces of the landscape puzzle-to be completed in a few short weeks--are placing the massive metal-covered caps on the decorative posts and mounting the spindle fence on the granite wall in front of the Homestead.

"Emily Dickinson was a great American poet and we took the 90 minute tour (there is also a 40 minute tour) which covered her life, poetry and very interesting tours of her home and her brother's home nearby. This very informative tour is a must of anyone interested learning more about the "Belle of Amherst."
